Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m.
Introductions:
The Board made their introductions and welcomed new Commissioner Ralph LaPadula.
Election of Chair and Vice Chair for 2013
The Board decided to continue having Co- Chairs for 2013. This decision will be re-
evaluated in 2014.
Resolution:
By Commissioner Bush: Seconded by Commissioner Levine
RESOLVED, That Richard Rogers and Shirley Kane be elected to the position of Co-
Chairs for 2013.

Approval of Minutes of the December 20, 2012 Meeting
By Commissioner Baker: Seconded by Commissioner Levine
RESOLVED, That the minutes of the December 20, 2012 Community Police Board
meeting be approved as published.

Report from Common Council:
Alderperson Kerslick reported that the CityScene newsletter this month was the City's
2012 Report Card and included crime statistics in the City from 2008 -2012. There
appears to be no evidence of an increase in crime; however there is always room for
performance improvement. Officer Jamie Williamson has been designated the
department's Public Information Officer.
Alderperson Kerslick reported that he met with the Mayor to discuss the Chief of Police
Search Committee. Three Commissioners are needed to serve on the committee. It
was suggested that Commissioners Rogers, Degrossa and Brower serve on the
committee if they are willing.

By Commissioner Bush: Seconded Kane
RESOLVED, That Commissioners Levine, DeGrossa, and Brower be appointed to
serve on the Police Chief Search Committee with Commissioner Rogers serving as an
Alternate should a Commissioner not be able to serve.

Report from the Police Department
Acting Police Chief Barber reported on the following matters:
• One of the Sergeants recently retired and he will be promoting an Officer to fill
the position.
• The department remains short- staffed.
• The Ithaca Police Department conducted a massive search this week for a
missing person. The deceased person was located, bringing closure for the
family.
Commissioner Kane reported that she attended her required annual "ride along" with
the Ithaca Police Department and was kept very busy during her shift. She noted that
she was impressed by the professionalism of the Officers she interfaced with.
Report from Staff:
Information Management Specialist Day reminded Commissioners to have their photos
taken by the Human Resources Department for their ID cards if they had not already
done so.
New Business:
The Board discussed the possibility of giving recognition awards.
Motion to Enter into Executive Session to Discuss Active Investigations:
By Commissioner Bush: Seconded by Commissioner Levine
Resolved, That the Community Police Board enter into Executive Session to discuss
active investigations.

Reconvene:
The Board reconvened into Regular Session with the recommendation of the resolution
of 4 complaints and a decision to send a letter for the 5th complaint.

By Commissioner Baker: Seconded by Commissioner Kane
RESOLVED, That case number 1012 be considered successfully resolved.

Resolution:
By Commissioner Levine: Seconded by Commissioner Kane
RESOLVED, That case numbers 1112, 1212, and 1312 be considered successfully
resolved and that a letter be sent to the complainant of case number 1512.
Carried Unanimously
