5:30 -7:00 pm
City Hall, 108 East Green Street
Second Floor Conference Room
Present: Gerry Cox (notetaker); Ron Herring; Jon Meigs; Todd Miner; Sarah Steuteville; Anna
Stalter (acting chairperson)
Guests: Dan Hoffman, City Attorney; Roxy Johnston, City of Ithaca Watershed Coordinator;
Todd S. Miller, USGS; Eric Whitney, DPW; Jane Walker, Blacksburg, VA.
The outstanding minutes for July remain outstanding.
Reports: Roxy commented that there seemed to be a greater problem with trash this summer
than other summers. The rangers are also encountering more hostility from swimmers, who
are not just local people but visiting from some distance away, like Binghamton.
She also reported that the Town of Ithaca will hold a meeting on September 12 to discuss and
vote on solutions to the problem of visitors parking on Penny Lane.
Roxy also said that Bill Chaisson may write an article on the illegal swimming for the Ithaca
Times.
The rest of the meeting was taken up by Todd Miller's talk and PowerPoint presentation on the
research Daniel E. Karig and he had done on the geohydrology of the stratified -drift aquifer
system in the lower Six -Mile trough. Their topo data was based in part on the use of LIDAR
(Light Detection and Ranging). Among the many points he touched on, Todd Miller observed
that the Brooktondale delta has the most potential for large capacity pumping wells.
