HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-NAC-2010-12-13Natural Areas Commission December 13, 2010 In attendance: Joe McMahon (acting chair), Gerry Cox, Anna Statler, Todd Miner Also Attending: Roxy Johnston, City Water Dept.; Wade Wykstra, BPW Liaison Absent: Robert Wesley, Sarah Steuteville, Ron Herring, Jon Megis, Alison Fromme, Announcements and Reports Wade asked about the Six Mile Creek water plant; not much to report The decision hasn't been made on filtration system Settling pond /drying bed maintenance will take place late this fall or early winter Possible dredging around intake There was wash out on maintenance road after last big rain Joe sent letter about Collegetown Terraces Local community council also sent letter Concern expressed about reducing catchment basin area Not known if height variance request was accepted or denied Joe hiked Stewart Park and reported on elevated walkway Gorge Jumping Letter to Google /YouTube Letter was reviewed and slight editorial changes suggested Joe will send edited letter Annual Report Should be annually shared with BPW and Common Council Anna volunteered to collect input from other members for first draft Priorities Keeping other boards informed of NAC guidelines Raising visibility of NAC Keeping natural areas natural (invasive removal, erosion, etc.) Fall Creek corridor Six Mile water project Public education walks and talks Trail maintenance Attendance with expertise Folks should review these and be ready to suggest additional priorities and prioritize the list at January meeting Next Meeting: January 10, 5:30 City Hall
