NEW BUSINESS:
ADA Survey:
City Planners — Leslie Chatterton and Megan Gilbert updated the Council on the ongoing ADA
survey. They reported that the last survey was completed in 1992 and that a new survey form
has been distributed to Department Heads to complete to verify whether identified projects from
the 1992 survey had been completed. For departments that have completed projects a different
form will be sent to see whether new facilities have been built or new programming has been
implemented, or other actions have been taken.
Discussion followed on the floor regarding the survey forms and communication processes.
City Planner Chatterton requested that all questions be forwarded to her to respond to and
investigate. Further discussion followed regarding the building permit process and accessibility
requirements related to building projects. It was noted that departments should notify the
Planning department when improvements are made so that the survey can always be up -to-
date. Questions followed regarding where funding might be obtained to assist departments in
making these necessary improvements. The information from the survey can also be used to
update the accessibility map that is being developed.
Collegetown Urban Plan — Overview:
City Planners — Leslie Chatterton and Megan Gilbert provided a presentation on the status of
the Collegetown Urban Plan. They explained that the entire plan is available on the City's
website. They noted that new development guidelines are being created as well new zoning
proposals as part of the plan. The topics discussed included: cost of the project, existing
conditions, public process, sustainability issues, real estate values, transportation and parking,
the overall urban plan, height limitations, diversity of population of the area, accessibility needs,
preferred use, site design, parking, building materials, architectural /fagade design, and street
scape improvements.
Discussion followed on the floor on how Disability Advisory Council members can provide input
into the plan and what opportunities to create as a liaison position between the Implementation
Committee and the Disability Advisory Council.
