COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MINUTES
Regular Meeting 4:30 p.m. January 22, 2025
Present:
Chair: Kane
Commissioners (5) Simons, Korthuis, Wright, Bursic, Rogers
Absent:
Onyejuruwa
Others Present:
IPD Deputy Chief Cowen
Public Information Specialist Faraday
Members of the Board state that they are still seeking a Council Liaison.
Report from the Police Department:
DC Cowen shares that there have been promotions, new hires, and re -hires of former
IPD officers.
Chair Kane requests that there have been some delays in getting information from IPD
regarding investigations. DC Cowen shares that the Executive Assistant is away on
leave and things should return to previous status soon. In the meanwhile, cc DC Cowen
on requests for information so that he may ensure timely response.
Commissioner Simons shares a compliment with the group, PIS Faraday will write up
an official thank you from the CPB and pass it along.
OLD BUSINESS
A number of items are holding over from 2024; they will be addressed as appropriate
moving forward. Among them the items that the Board would like to see IPD report on at
each meeting, LEAD, GIVE, and CARE programs.
NEW BUSINESS
Commissioners Bursic and Rogers will work on Policy updates, with staff assistance.
Commissioner Simons will work on the Annual Report.
Chief Kelly arrived at 5:12 p.m.
Alderperson Matos shares with the group that Mayor Cantelmo has assigned David
Shapiro to be the CPB’s new Council Liaison.
