HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB-2024-09-25CITY OF ITHACA COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MINUTES Regular Meeting 4:30 p.m. September 25, 2024 Present: Chair: Kane Commissioners: (6) Simons, Korthuis, Onyejuruwa, Wright Virtual: Rogers, Bursic Others Present: Chief - Kelly Public Information Specialist – Faraday Excused: Common Council Liaison - Brown Report From Staff: PIS Faraday passes along a press request. Report from the Police Department: Chief Kelly shares that officers received recognition from the Kiwanis club. IPD has made progress with the Crime Analyst position. Chief shares that IPD was successful in working with other agencies to secure housing for a small number of folks that were camped out by Pete’s on Rt. 89. A conversation ensues regarding the challenges surrounded integrating previously unhoused people into apartments/ housed communities with shared resources. Chief shares that Arthaus has brought on private security to assist with issues they were previously having with a large number of service calls. Commissioners ask questions about Vecino group, and their provisions for security at the Ithacan apartments. Commissioners ask questions about the data that will be shared out to the group vs that which is available on the IPD Dashboard. Old Business: Discussions on the items that would be shared via a monthly report from IPD, standardization of reporting. Topics include variance of data between reporting agencies; traffic stop demographics and the various complexities of gathering information of a sensitive personal manner. MOTION TO ENTER INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS ACTIVE INVESTIGATIONS: By Commissioner Rogers: Seconded by Commissioner Simons RESOLVED, That the Community Police Board enter into Executive Session to discuss active investigations. Carried Unanimously RECONVENE: The Community Police Board reconvened into Regular Session with no formal action taken.
