HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB-2023-05-24CITY OF ITHACA COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MINUTES Regular Meeting 4:30 p.m. May 24, 2023 Present: Chair: Kane Commissioners (7) Beem-Miller, Rogers, Simons, Korthuis, Onyejuruwa, Wright, Bursic Others Present: Deputy Chief - Monticello Common Council Liaison - McGonigal Public Information Specialist – Faraday Report from IPD: DC Moniticello reports on the individuals in Academy. He states that he is planning to retire in August. A replacement for the soon to be vacant DC position has not been announced. CPB should please communicate with AC Schwartz, cc Vince until July. Approval of the March 22, 2023, Community Police Board Meeting Minutes- Resolution: By Commissioner Rogers: Seconded by Commissioner Wright RESOLVED, That the minutes of the March 22, 2023, Community Police Board meeting be approved as published. Carried Unanimously Approval of the April 26, 2023, Community Police Board Meeting Minutes- Resolution: By Commissioner Rogers: Seconded by Commissioner Wright RESOLVED, That the minutes of the April 26, 2023, Community Police Board meeting be approved as published. Carried Unanimously Welcome to the visiting students, Chair Kane stated that we are looking for a youth member for the CPB. Report from Common Council: Alderperson McGonigal states that he had a conversation with Monalita Smiley about the Community Justice Center Advisory Board, and the seats are all filled. She was happy to hear that the CPB would be interested in being more involved and stated that she will consider them moving forward. Reports that the search for a new Chief is ongoing. Report from Staff: PIS Faraday states that there is a Microsoft Teams Group now established for CPB. Members have received an invitation. Meryl will work with file sharing, as well as Michael. The matter will be reviewed and reported on regularly as we move to integrate this file sharing process. MOTION TO ENTER INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS ACTIVE INVESTIGATIONS: By Commissioner Rogers: Seconded by Commissioner Beem-Miller RESOLVED, That the Community Police Board enter into Executive Session to discuss active investigations. Carried Unanimously RECONVENE: The Community Police Board reconvened into Regular Session with no formal action taken.
