COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MINUTES
Regular Meeting 3:30 p.m. May 25, 2022

Commissioner Rogers updated the group that Chair Kane is still in Corning for medical
reasons.
Report from Common Council:
Alderperson McGonigal reported that there will be an item on the City Administration
Meeting Agenda regarding Police initiated Reimagining, particularly regarding the
Critical Incident Negotiating Team.
The Board shares condolences with Alderperson McGonigal.
A question was asked about the Commissions, which are presently not meeting.
Report from the Police Department:
DC Monitcello reports that there have been some promotions within IPD, and the official
swearing in will occur in June.
The IPD dashboard is now live on the city’s website. The information is updated weekly.
Chair Kane shares that she had a nice chat with a couple of Police Officers recently.
Report from Staff:
PIS Faraday, shares that the next meeting should be in person.
Old Business:
6.1 Letter to Common Council regarding the Reimagining process; response from
Council Person Brock.
Chair Kane inquires if anyone from the group has received any other response
regarding the letter that CPB sent to Common Council.
McGonigal expressed that there was a lot of value in the letter, and that CPB is an
important voice; thanks the group for the letter and the thought that went into it.
The group discusses the questions they have brought forth in the letter, and in previous
communications about the Reimagining process.
6.2 Discussion of D.H. Goodall’s presentation and slides.
Chair Kane shares that she was impressed with Mr. Goodall’s presentation and is
grateful for the work he has been contracted to do for IPD.
Questions about the budget allocation for the contracted work were referred to the
published city budget for reference. The testing process for IPD applicants was
discussed. Question regarding the recruitment of a Chief for IPD- the search is about to
begin.
PIS Faraday is asked to draft a letter to Mr. Goodall.
Chair Kane asks how many individuals in the Working Group for Reimagining did ride
alongs with IPD. Aldersperson McGonigal is not certain, knows of one for sure.
Alderperson McGonigal encourages the group to attend the South Side Community
Center’s Juneteenth Bicycle event, which IPD is planning to participate in.
DC Monticello shares that about half of Common Council & the Chief of Staff partook in
a reality based training with IPD.
