BATHYMETRY–biggest challenge
IN Arcmap GIS program:
1.Started with raw data, a xyz file (lat, long, and depth of water), 6,850,00 rows
of data
2.Generated a point data file (shapefile), 6,850,000 points, 5 meter spacing
(Takes computer 20-30 min each run)
3.Converted point data file to a raster map
4.From the raster map, generated depth contour interval lines,
5.Exported all map data to Adobe Illustrator
In Adobe Illustrator graphic editor program:
1.Imported Arcmap project into Illustrator to make it look pretty and generate
donuts.
2.Donuts?? Yes, donuts. Polygons with holes in them are a challenge in
cartography
3.Donuts were needed to create the shade relief water-depth contour map
