To that end, we thought it would be helpful if we put together some answers to what we anticipate might be some frequently asked questions. “What is going to happen in Sunset Park?” The Village is in the process of seeking funding for potential upgrades. However, before we dive too deeply or commit to a design, it’s important that we get feedback from residents. We will not be making any design decisions until the outreach process is complete. “Does the Village want to increase the number of people using the park?” Increasing users is not the Village’s goal. Our primary goal is to make it into a more pleasant, attractive environment, which may drive some organic growth. “Will my taxes go up?” The village is seeking grants from the State of New York for these upgrades. The grants will cover 75-80% of the total cost, with matching funds coming from in-kind services or budget allocations. We do not anticipate an additional assessment to Village taxes. “Can we add a [barbecue area/playground/public/work out equipment/hot air balloon launch/tiger sanctuary/etc.]?” What a wonderful perspective! We love the varied and creative features Village residents would like to see at Sunset Park. We will be collecting all input and all ideas through an online survey and a public outreach session at Marcham Hall on Sunday, May 7th. After we collect all the feedback about the park we will look at how many people support any one feature, we will match that to our available budget, and we will decide the future of the park based on public input. “Who cares! The people at the Village hall will just decide everything anyway.” We think it’s important that everyone has a voice about the future of this park. There is no one person at the Village whose opinion about the park will weigh any differently than anybody else’s opinion. That’s the point of this public outreach process. The only way your opinion will be disregarded is if you don’t share it. Please consider filling out the survey and attending the public information session on May 7th.
