Lansing Chief of Police July 13, 2005 To: The Honorable Walter Lynn Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Re: Report of the Police Department for June 2005 For the month of June there were a total of 133 complaints reported to the Police Department and 6 motorvehicle accidents investigated. There were atotal of 62 traffic tickets issued and I pait<ugtickets written" During June there was one felony complaint for Fraud. A resident was notified by his bank in regards to apossible discrepancy involving numerous checks written on his account in early june. The resident statedthat he had not written or cashed any of the checks in question. In early June Le ha.d allowed a subject to use his vehicle and had left his check book in the glove compartment. Upon investigation it was found thatall checks had been deposited or cashed in the city of Ithaca. The case was turned orzer to the Ithaca police Department. There were seven misdemeanors reported: one for Issuing a Bad Check, one for petit Larceny, two for Criminal Mischief, two for Criminil Tampering and one for Assaunt. The bad check was closed with restitution received in full as well as one case pending from last month. The petit larceny wasthe report of a customer pumping into his vehicle und l"uuing without paylng. The customer wascontacted and returned to.pay, A resident reported that sometim. -hi1" he was lut of town for a couple ofweeks' the windshield wiper of his vehicle parked in his driveway had been bent. 'Ihe second criminalmischief case was reported damage to the complainant's vehicle while his son was attending aparcy araresidence in the village wltl the son attempted to drive away with a couple of his friends, Jtn"i suLjectsat the pafi- gathered around the vehicle, hitting and pushing at it. The vehicle otrtained damage to theantenna and several dents in various places. After an investigation, two 19 year old males were arrested forcriminal mischief and both were issued appearance tickets fbr court. Both criminal tampering cases werereports of eggs thrown at houses and at vehicles sometime during the ovemight. They were also reports ofegg throwing in numerous places outside the village during the same time frime. The assault case was thereport of an injury to a subject as a result of a domestic dispute. The officer found that a male subject andhis wife had a verbal argument which escalated and his wifi threw a plate at him which caused a lacerationto his wrist. The 31 year old female was arrested for assauit. There was one violation reported for thetnonth of June a Disorderly_Conduct complaint about noise. The subject responsible was contacted by theofficer and agreed to run the equipment at a more reasonable hour. There were five Village Ordinancecomplaints: two for barking dogs, two for solicitor permit requests and one for open. buminj. There werefbur Vehicle and Traffic complaints: two for miscellaneous problems and two for Driving WhileIntoxicated which resulted in the arrest of an 18 year old male and a 44 year old male. There were a totalof one hundred and fifteen miscellaneour ro*pLintr handled by the police department for the month ofJune. During the month of June, Officer Lanning attended a one day seminar in Corning at the Southern Tier Law !n!r3m9nt Academy conceming designer drugs and tuu. tlob investigations. The traininJ, rreta by theNYS Division of Criminal Justice Services, dealt with familiarizing law enforcement officers with thehistory and current trends ,in designer drugs. The haining focusJd on drug identification, means ofdeveloping intelligence and methods of investigations. DARE graduation was held at the NortheastSchool' officer Steinmetz and officer Lanning conducted the annrial bike rodeo at the Northeast school"The first day was the classroom presentation and discussion_about bicycle safety rules. The second day thestudents rode their bikes through a course set up by the officers. Each student was given a certificate bythis department for participating. The full time officers worked 107.5 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked. 113 hours.
