Re: Report of the Police Department for May 2005
For the month of May there were a total of 119 complaints reported to the Police Department and 5 motor
vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 124 traffic tickets issued and e part<ing tickets written.
During May there were no felony complaints. There were thirteen misdemeanors reported: two for Issuing
Bad Checks, nine for Petit Larceny and two for Criminal Mischief. One of the bad check cases is stillpending. The other bad check case was closed with restitution paid as while as one case pending from lastmonth. Two residents reported their unlocked vehicles had been entered during the overnighi. In both
incidents, loose change was the only item taken. Three of the petit larcenies were reports of customers
pumping gasoline into their vehicles and leaving without paying. One of the cases was closed with the
customer contacted and returning to pay. Two of the cases are still open as incorrect plate numbers from
the vehicles had been obtained by the employee. A taxi driver reported that a passeng.r got upset, left the
taxi taking the driver's cell phone with him. The driver stated that the passenger was intoxicated and that
he was taking him to an address in Cayuga Heights. The passenger was located and identified by the
driver. The cell phone was retumed, fare paid and all parties involved were satisfied. Two of the larcenies
were reports of mailboxes stolen. The final petit larceny was the report of a possible employee theft. A
business 5r'pervisor reported that a phone card had been activated but there was no record olpayment. The
case is still under investigation. One criminal mischief case was the reported when a "o*pluitrunt ,tut"d
that the driver's side window had been broken out of her vehicle while parked in the lot at her sorority.
The second criminal mischief case was the reported damage to the mailbox and door handle at the same
sorority. Both cases are still pending. There were three violations reported for the month of May: one for
Disorderly Conduct and two for Unlawful Trespass. The disorderly conduct was report of loud music
being played. The person responsible was contacted about the complaint and theie were no further
protrlems. One trespass complaint was that a resident reported that someone had come onto his property
and went through his unlocked vehicles. Nothing had been taken. The other hespass was reported when a
complainant stated that he is subletting an apartment and is late with the rent" Fiiends of ttre person he is
subletting from came to see him. The subjects would not leave until the complainant threatened to call the
po.lice. The complainant was advised that this was a civil matter between himself and the person he is
subletting from and that he should make contact with that person. The other subjects were contacted and
advised not to go see the complainant again. There were four Village Ordinance complaints: two for dog
control, one for a solicitor's request and one for being in Sunset Park after Hours. There were six Vehicle
and Traffic complaints received: one for Parking, one for Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident
and four miscellaneous traffic complaints. There were a total of ninety-three miscellaneous complaints
handled by the police department for the month of May"
During the month of May, the Division of Criminal Justice training on the use of secure services was held
at the Tompkins County Dispatch Center. This training was organized by Officer Lanning and hosted by
the Cayuga Heights Police Department for the area police and justice departments. Officer Wright attended
a four day school for Datamaster haining held in Coming at the Southem Tier Law Enforcement Academy.
The DARE graduation was held at the Cayuga Heights School.
The fulI time officers worked 126.5 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 85.5. There was a
total of $393 reported lost or stolen and $330 in properly recovered for the month of May.
