I would appreciate your advising me of any modifications that you think are appropriate. E-mail responses would be welcome. Wahr:r A RESOLUTION Whe,leas all residents of the Village of Cayuga Heights are aware of the presence of white-tail deer throughout the Village and elsewhere in this region, and Whe,reas the former Deer Committee of the Village reviewed and studied the matter of controlling the Village deer population, and Whe'reas with the financial support of a Village Resident, a major research project was undertaken by Corrrell University (Department of Natural Resources) to reduce the fecund, ity and thus the reproduction rate crf does who maintiain their home range in sections of the Village, and Whereas this research effor"t increased our understanding of the deer population in the community it was neither intended to or successful in reducing the deer population in the Village, and Whe,leas the destruction and damages resulting from the overpopulation of these animals has been repeatedly represented to the Trustees by numerous requests to the Village trustees to "do something about the Deer" because of their destructiveness to plant materials, danger to humans and domestic aninnls and significantdamage to automobiles, and Whereas devising a means to effeot control over this population is plausible and only makes sense, if and c,nly if, it involves all the territory embodied within Tompkins County, Therefore; be it resolved that the Trustees of the Village of Cayuga Heightr; requests that the Council of Governments, which includes all the municipal governments embodied in Tompkins County, establish a program to control the deer population within their respective territories, and Be irt furlher resolved that such a program (be approved by the Department of Environmental Conrservation) would involve the participation of most, if not all the municipalities within the Council of Govemments as well as other significant land owners such as Cornell University, and Be it further resolved that such participation would include both financial resources and legislative authority required to operate and sustain a long term program order to significantly reduce the deer population in the territory within Tompkins County, and finally, Be it further resolved that the Village of Cayuga Heights fully supports and endorses this concept and agrees to participate by providing its share of the financial and other support to such an endeavor. tU1412006 Dzu.FT - Deer Resolution - DRAFT Council of Goyqrnments County of Tompkins City of Ithaca Village of Cayuga Heights Village of Dryden Village of Freeville Village of Groton Village of Lansing Village of Trumansburg Town of Caroline Town of Danby Town of Dryden Town of Enfield Town of Groton Town of Ithaca Town of Lansing Town o Newfield Town of Ulysses Page2 of2 rU1412006
