In the first curve I hit a manhole cover that was raised above the road surface. It cut the front right tire on my car. This night was rainy and dark and visibility was not so good. There were no cones blocking the cover so that it could have been avoided--the cones would have been visible in my headlights. Brent Cross, the village engineer, told me on Monday that another car had already done the same--had hit the cover and lost a tire--so why wasn't this hazard remedied or at least better marked? I am writing to ask you to consider reimbursing me for the destroyed tire--enclosed is a copy of the bill from Sears for a new (cheap) tire and a notice from AAA who helped me that night to get my car going again.
