HomeMy WebLinkAboutFire Department Monthly Report - July 2006.PDFCAYUGA f{E,IGN'|TS FINE DE,FARTA/f EI{T 194 Pleasant Grove Road Ithaca, NY 14850 (507) 257-2371 August 6,2006 Flonorable. Wal ter Lynn, Mayor Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report - July, 2006 July was a record month for the members of the Cayuga Heights Fire Department. We rzrr 59 calls for the month. There were 16 incidents in the Village of Cayrga Heights, 23 incidents in the Town of lthaca and we responded to 20 requests for Mutual Aid. There were 14 EMS calls and 25 fire calls. The unusually high number of calls for the month can be directly attributed to the automatic mutual aid we are providing to the Ithaca Fire Department during the north campus area construction. We are rururing an increased number of ca11s but everybody is still very motivated. During the summer months we seem to run more calls for fire alarm activations due to heat issues with fire alarm systems. Heat detectors on ceilings are sensitive to the increased temperatures at the ceiling lev'el by design and perform accordingly. We had no problems during the recent heat wave in the village other then overheated firefighters in turnout gear during calls. We are very aware of the issue of heat and keep bottled water on the trucks and keep the air conditioners running in the trucks themselves Lr early July we held the class for the new members of the department and that went very well. These members have worked through their checklists and have moved to interior status. Several other members of the department have also finished their checklists and changed status over the sulnmer. As stated previously we are planning for the fall recruit class. We will accept our new members in eariy October and start their training in mid October. We are planning on an average class of around fifteen recruits in the fali. We put the new rescue truck in service in Ju1y. The 2007 Chevrolet Suburban is larger then the Jeep that we had been using. The cabinetry in the back of the truck allows space for all of our equipment and the front console has a much cleaner look with an extra radio added to the console for command and control pulposes. The truck will allow us to transport four firefighters with the larger backseat. It is working well for us and all members of the rescue squad who are currently in town are cleared on the truck. We had all the annual testing done on the fire trucks in early July and hose and ladder testing will take place in mid and late August. At that point we will have all of our annual required testing done on all of our equipment. ,' f{ E[-P P R.EVENT F TRE,S'' We continue through the summer to ensure that the fire station looks well groomed. The grass stays mowed and we have continued to ferlllize and water to keep everlthing looking good. We have had a problem with the Plymovent system. The motor that is mounted on the roof of the station bumed out. We have contacted the company that installed the system and they have ordered a new motor. The system was seven days out of warranty when the motor failed and we are looking to the manufacturer to give us a break on the cost of the new motor. Looking forward to upcoming events in the county we are seeing a potential cost to all county public safety agencies for the cost of new radios. With the 800 megahertz system under construction the Department of Emergency Response has secured some money to help cover the cost of the end user equipment for all fire/police/EMS agencies but they are not sure if the money is there to cover all the end user equipment. I will keep the board up to date as I get new information on this front.board up to date as t pet Sincerely, o f'j{- f #fit;{i, frliy V {'"v Tamborelle Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent EMERGENCY CALLS: 59 TOTAL CALLS YEARTO DATE: 318 Total Calls - 59 Fire Calls - 25 EMS Calls - 14 Total Mutual Aid - 20 lthaca-Z} Calls in the Village - 16 Calls in the Town - 23 TRAINING / MEETINGS / EVENTS: V18 - New Member Training Vt19 - EMS Training V 125 - Demo at BOGES for special needs children V 126 - Fire Training - Ladders UPCOMING EVENTS: 8/8 - Ladder Testing E/18 - Hose Testing 8126 - Fire Department Demo at Cornell Universtiy EI27 - Gompany Meeting APPARATUS: All tnrcks working well STATION: Working on Plyrnovent System repair Gayuga Heights Fire Department Fire Department:55002 Companies:All Date Range: From 07/01/2006 to 07/31i2006 Box/Zone/ Gode:All District:All Situation Found:All Exclude Mutual Aids:No Exclude Exposures: No Incident Run Log ncident#Address OccupantTimeDate -Xum5erA.ttendinSituation Found 1006-060259-00 071021200601:34 tG Dispatched for standby at IFD central while IFD was at a siruciure fire 106 N.
