Re; Report of the Police Department for June 2006
For the month of June there were a total of 111 complaints repoited to the police department and 2 motor
vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 55 haffic tickets issued and 5 parking tickets written.
During June there was one felony complaint, Criminal Mischief. Numerous mailboxes were damaged by
unknown subjects during an overnight along The Parkway, Cayuga Heights Rd and Highgate Rd.
Lpproximately 19 mailboxes had some type of damage. One of the complainant's vehicles had been
scratched by the mailbox thrown on the trunk. The case is still open. There were four misdemeanors
reported: fwo for Issuing a Bad Check, one for Petit Larceny and one for Stalking. Both of the bad check
cases are still open. The petit larceny case was the report of the Kline Rd sheet sign missing from its post.
A petit larceny from May was closed this month. A customer who had pumped gasoline rnto hrs vehicle
and left without paying was contacted by this deparfment and retumed to pay. A warrant which was issued
from a petit larceny case in May was served resulting in the arrest of a 29 year old female. A female
complainant reported a case of stalking. While waiting for the bus, a male subject pulled up in his truck
attempted a conversation with her, causing her to feel uneasy. Upon getting off the bus in the city of
llhaca, the same male pulled up next to her in his vehicle attempting another conversation. The
complainant was advised thaf if she sees the vehicle again, to obtain the plate number and contact this
department immediately.
There were six violations reported for the month of June: four for Disorderly Conduct, one for Harassment
and one for Unlawfui Possession of Fireworks. All disorderly conduct cases were complaints of loud noise
or music. A11 subjects responsible were contacted and there were no further problems. A subject reported
ttLat whiie out walking a vehicle went by and the driver honked with some kind of air hom. The subject
w'as scared by the noise and felt that the driver honked the horn to annoy him and show off for the
passengers in his vehicle. The officer spoke to the driver ofthe vehicle and advised him ofthe complaint
of, harassment. The driver apologized to the complainant and all were satisfied. While on patrol, the
officer heard fueworks being set off. The person was located who was responsible and was advised not to
dr: so again or he would be arrested.
There were two village ordinance complaints: a Solicitor Permit Request and the other a complaint under
th.e local law for the care of properfy. During June there were five Vehicle and Traffic complaints: two for
Parking Problems, one for an Abandoned Vehicle, one miscellaneous traffic problem and one for Driving
While Intoxicated. A 36 year old male was stopped while driving his vehicle for a traffic violation and was
fo,und to be intoxicated. There were a total of ninety-three miscellaneous complaints handled by this
deparfment for the month of June.
During June, Officer Steinmetz and Officer Wright held a bike rodeo at the Cayuga Heights School.
Officer Lanning attended a 3 day school held at the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy on Patrol
Interdiction. The classes were about drug interdiction and how to recognize concealed comparfments in
vehicles and houses. Officer Lanning also attended a 2 day school at the same location dealing with
financial crimes.
The full time officers worked 52.5 hows of overtime and the part-time officers worked i23.5 hours. There
