Re: Report of the Police Department for January 2006
For the month of January there were a total of 96 complaints reported to the Police Depaftment and 7 motor
vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 166 traffic tickets issued and 13 parkins tickets
wiritten.
Dr-rring January there were no felony complaints. There were eight misdemeanors reported: three for petit
Larceny, four for Criminal Mischief and one for Criminal Contempt. One of the petit larcenies reported
was the complaint of employee theft. The business reported that an employee stole approximately $SO in
cash money before leaving on his last date of working. The theft was taped on the business's security
camera. The 20 year old male was arrested for petit iarceny and issued an appearance ticket for cour1. A
resident reported that while out of town, the daughter had friends over to the house. After the friends left,
the daughter discovered that her mother's lap top computer from work was missing and aiso $100 in cash.
The case is still open with the investigation continuing. A resident had contacted her bank with questions
about her account and was made aware of the fact that her daughter had been at the bank and cashed
se'reral checks. The resident then realized that some ofher checks had been removed from her checkbook.
The resident reported that her daughter had been at the house several times during the month and that she
had not written the daughter any checks. As it would be difficuit to proof when an-d where the checks were
tallen and since the forged checks were cashed in the City of Ithaca, the case was tumed over to the Ithaca
Police Depaftment. Two of the criminal mischief cases occurred at the Cayuga Heights Elementar.y
School. On two consecutive nights unknown subjects super glued numerous doors and locks causing the
locks to be inoperative. A resident reported her mailbox damaged sometime during the overnight when a
stake that marked her driveway was shoved into the side of it. A resident reported that his check engine
light on his vehicle kept coming on and took it to agarage where he was toldthat several wires had been
cutl with some kind of tool. As it is unknown where or when the damage happened, no further action on
this case was taken. The criminal contempt case was repofied when a resident stated that she has a stay
awhile order of protection against her husband through family court whereby he is to have no contact with
her. The complainant then reported that she received email from her husband. After an investigation the
husband, a 4l year old male, was arrested for criminal contempt 2nd for violating that order of protection.
There were three violations reported: two for Disorderly Conduct and one for Unlawful Trespass. One
disorderly conduct was a noise complaint when a couple of sororities were having a yelling competition for
incoming members. All responsible parties were advised of the complaint and to tone down the noise. The
other disorderly conduct was reported by the princip al at CayugaHeights School. A parent of a sfudent had
been causing on going and escalating problems at the school and being disorderly with a staff member.
The parent was advised by the officer that his conduct would not be tolerated by the school and if it
continued, charges could be fiied. It was further explained to the parent that if he was not satisfied with the
schLool and the policies that he needed to file a complaint in the appropriate manner. The unlawful trespass
was reported by a resident who had asked a male subject at his house to leave and that subject refused to doso. The subject was advised by the offrcer to leave and not to return. There was one Village Ordinance
cornplaint: Open Container of Alcohol. The offrcer was dispatched to N Sunset Dr for a subiect oossiblv
passed out in the roadway. Upon arrival, a subject was located sleeping against a rock wall with his feet
sticking out into traffic. The subject had an opened bottie next to him which contained alcohol. The 28
year old male was arrested for having an open container of alcohol and issued an appearance ticket for
court. During the month of January there were five Vehicle and Traffic complaints: one for parking and
four miscellaneous traffic problems. There were a total of sevenfy-nine miscellaneous complaints handled
by this department for the month of January.
During the month of January Officer Lanning held his DARE graduations, two classes at Cayuga Heights
School and one class at The Northeast Elementary. Officer Steinmetz attended a 5 day classroom training
on Hostage Negotiations held at the Corning Police Academy. Chief Lansing was elected the vir:e-
chairperson on the E911 committee. With pleasure we would like to announce an addition to our police
household. Officer Wright and his wife April are proud parents of a son, Chandler McCrae.
The fuIl time officers worked 104 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 142 hours. There
was a total of $ 150 reported lost or stolen for the month of January.
