We ran 35 calls for the month of December bringing the total for the year to 468 calls. We had 15 runs in the Village and 20 calls in the town this onth. There were 16 EMS calls and 19 fire calls. For the first time in a very long time we did not run any mutual aid calls this month. December was a relatively slow month compared to recent months but we had a couple of interesting calls. We were dispatched to a local business early in the month for a strange odor. Units arrived and investigated the situation. We found that a squirrel had climbed into the vent for the furnace and was not able to ge! out and that was the cause of the odor. NYSEG was called to take care of this problem. We were also dispatched to a possible structure fire. Arriving units pulled up to the house in a snow storm to find a heavy smoke condition and the back of the house seemed to be on fue, Thankfirlly we discovered that the residents chimney was the cause of the problem and the chimney fire was quickly extinguished and we retumed to service. The volunteers of this village respond nearly every day to these calls and consistently provide the highest level of service to this district. I am extremely proud of our firefighters for the professionalism that they display at all times and for the way they work to accomplish the mission of this department. We have taken a little break in our hectic training schedule this month for the holiday season. Our training officers Lt. Jason Gleghorn and Lt. Matt Abbinanti have been putting together some outstanding training recently. They have worked very hard to keep the trainings tough and stimulating but also fun. The last training in December that we had was Jeopardy type training with teams competing with each other for general fire and department knowledge. Everybody went away from the training laughing and smiling. Trainings like these not only keep us up to date on or knowledge but also build esprit de corps among the members. These two gentlemen are doing an outstanding job for the department. In late January we have our annual day long Blood Borne Fathogens training as well as CPR recertification for the department. We started this training last year and it work very well for us. It gets the OSHA required trurung for Blood Borne Pathogens taken care of early in the year as well as getting all of our members current on their CPR. Every member of the fire department is required to be CPR certified. ,, rXELP PREVENT F[R.ES" Everything at the station seems to be working well at this time. Ow heating pump problem seems to be fixed and we now have one spare circulating pump on hand at the station because they always seems to stop working on long weekends or hoiidays and it becomes a problem procuring the unit in those situations. All of our apparatus is in fine shape. Our village mechanic, JeffFrisbee, is working hard keeping our fleet on the road with oil changes and small repairs. We appreciate all the support we get from the DPW" They keep our trucks going and our parking lot clean and we are grateful. The bunker progftrm is still going very well. The bunker rooms are all full and we still have a short waiting list of members interestbd in moving in. The program continues to be a guide for the way a bunking program should work. I was contacted again last month by a local department with staffing issues about our progmm and asked to send them information. The bunkers continue to be the reason why, late at night that first fire truck rolls out the door in under two minutes every time we get an alarm. We still average around 12 mentbers per call, but at 3 a.m. it takes a few minutes to gather the members who don't live at the station so we still rely on the seven firefighters living upstairs to get that first truck staffed or the rescue truck on the road quickly and they don't disappoint. 'Ihe rest of ow members corne to the station, staff the ladder and second engine and we oan get all of our trucks rolling down the road for all types of calls, day or night, rain or shine. Sincerely, ..$/--\ r o.*4 Ic.ffir"hr6or.il" " V FirdChief/Fire Superintendent EMERGENCYCALLS: 35 TOTALCALLSYEARTODATE: 468 Total Calls - 35 Fire Calls - 19 EMS Calls - 16 Total Mutual Aid - 0 Calls in the ViIIage - 15 Calls in the Town - 20 TRAIITiING / MEETINGS / EYENTS: 12/4 - Gompany Meeting 1216 - EMS Training - Back boarding 1218 - Fire Gouncil 12113 - Fire Training - Potpourri Training UPCOMING EVENTS: 1110 - Fire Training 1113 - Fire Council 1/,18 - EMS Training 1/,28 - EMS Training - Mandatory Annual Training 1128 - Gompany Meeting 1131- Fire Training 4122- Annual Fire Department Banquet APPARATUS: All trucks working well STATION: Cayuga Heights Fire Department Fire Department:55002 Companies:All Date Range:From 12101/2005 to 12/31/2005 Box/Zonel Code:AIl District:All Situation Found:All Exclude Mutual Aids:No Exclude Exposures:No Incident Run Log ncident#Date Time Address Occupant Situation Found Number Attending 1005-05043s-00 12/03/2005 00:57 Z Vehicle accident with injuries Dispatched Pi by TCEC 91 I for car into telephone pole.
