Rescue 241 is an 11 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee. At this time R241 is overloaded with
an ever increasing amount of equipment that we are required to carry on it per NYS
Department of Health Guidelines for ALS Rescue Vehicles.
We would like to replace this vehicle with a2006 Chevrolet Suburban Z7l wilharr
aluminum cabinet system. This vehicle is substantially larger then the current truck and
would easily fit all the equipment that we are required to carry. We have gone to two
departments in this county (Lansing and Newfield) and looked at their vehicles. The
specifications for their trucks are exactly what we need. The work done on both of these
vehicles was done by a local rescue vehicle outfitter with an outstanding reputation for
quality work. This company is the only company that is building aluminum cabinetry in
the northeast. We would like to use aluminum to keep the overall weight of the vehicle
down. The approximate cost to fit out the truck would be 16K.
The vehicle itself, a2006 Chevrolet Suburban 277, rs available from Stafford Chevrolet
of Dryden for 537,343. The list price of this vehicle is $48,000. The reason we are
looking for this specific vehicle is that it is built with a heavy duty suspension system
capable of carrying all the added weight of cabinetry and equipment that we require. The
price of other local Chevy dealers is right at the MSRP for the vehicle. The Chevy
Suburban was on state bid last year but currently is not available through state contract.
In speaking with Stafford Chewolet on Thursday the price of $37,343 will be the high
price they assure me they can get the vehicle for less then that price at the fleet rate.
With the recent gift from the estate of George Hanselman we would like to purchase the
vehicle with monies from the capital reserve with a quarterly repayment back to the
village from the trust. The repayment will be between 3K and 4K quarterly depending on
the interest yield from the trust.
The plan would be to replace 24I with a new vehicle and move the 1995 Jeep into a
support role with the department and keep the vehicle for several more years. The
vehicle has a total of 15K miles on it. We plan to keep 241 as a possible backup
rescue/command vehicle. We kept the back seat for the vehicle here at the station. The
lights, sirens and radios currently in the vehicle would all stay with the vehicle.
We would like to request that the Public Safety Committee on behalf of the fire
department support this purchase and present our proposal to the whole Board of
Trustees. Overall cost of this project would be approximately 54K.
