Lansing Chief of Police January 11,2006 To: The Honorable Walter Lynn Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Re; Report of the Police Department for December 2005 For the month of December there were a total of 141 complaints repofted to the Police Department and 5 motor vehicle accidents investisated. There were a total of 23 traffrc tickets issued and 17 parkine tickets written. During December there were no felony complaints. There were seven misdemeanors reported: one for Issuing a Bad Check, two for Petit Larceny and four for Criminal Mischief. The'bad check case was closed with restitution received in fuli. A pending bad check case from November was also closed in December with the restitution received. The petit larcenies were received from residents who reported their mailboxes or their Ithaca Journal boxes taken sometime during an overnight. Both of those cases are still open. One criminal mischief case was when a vehicle hit a Cayuga Heights speed limit sign causing damage to the post. A resident reported that the post to his mailbox had been broken off sometime during the overnight causing damage. The resident found the mailbox still attached to the broken post in his driveway. During an overnight, two different residents had their vehicle back windows broken out by an unknown subject. A 2x2 wooden stake, which had apparently been used to cause the damage, was found on the ground by one vehicle. A11 of the criminal mischief cases are still open. There were three violations reported: one for Harassment and two for Unlawful Trespass. A youth reported that he was being harassed by another while sledding on the hill near A-lot. The youth stated that he had a dispute with another youth who held him face first in the snow. Both mothers of the youths arrived and all spoke with the officer. A11 came to an agreement that the incident was over and that any discipline wouldbe addressedat home by the parents. One of the unlawful trespass cases was reported by a female who had recently seprirated from her husband aftet a domestic dispute. The female stated that a male subject, that she believes was her husband, was found in the apartment by a maintenance person while he was there to change the locks. The complainant reported that her husband was not allowed to be at the apartment. The investigating officer was advised by the complainant's attorney that the divorce case is still pending and that no determination had been made as to the rights of the apartment. The case was closed with no further action by this department. An employee of Kendal reported a vehicle shrck in the field on Kendal properfy. The driver of the vehicle stated that he was visiting friends and drove onto the field to have some fun. A tow truck was contacted and pulled the vehicle out. The complainant just wanted the incident on file but did not want to press charges. There were four village ordinance compiaints: two for Dog Control, one Firework complaint and one Curfew complaint. The ofhcer observed 2 youths out during the early moming hours on their bicycles. Both were transported to a village residence and handed over to the parent. During the month of December there were three Vehicle and Traffic complaints: two for parking problems and one miscellaneous complaint. There were a total of one hundred forty-one miscellaneous complaints handled by this department for the month of December. During the month of December, Chief Lansing was again active in the planning and the distribution of toys for the Cops, Kids and Toys Program. The Cayuga Heights Police Department was one of many drop off sites for the public to leave their donations. Also during December, the police department received numerous requests for property checks due to a number ofresidents leaving the area for the holidays. The full time officers worked 87 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 149.5 hours. There was a total of $3 10 reported lost or stolen and $410 in property recovered for the month of December. Sincerely, KenneYh W.
