Re; Report of the Police Department for December 2005
For the month of December there were a total of 141 complaints repofted to the Police Department and 5
motor vehicle accidents investisated. There were a total of 23 traffrc tickets issued and 17 parkine tickets
written.
During December there were no felony complaints. There were seven misdemeanors reported: one for
Issuing a Bad Check, two for Petit Larceny and four for Criminal Mischief. The'bad check case was closed
with restitution received in fuli. A pending bad check case from November was also closed in December
with the restitution received. The petit larcenies were received from residents who reported their mailboxes
or their Ithaca Journal boxes taken sometime during an overnight. Both of those cases are still open. One
criminal mischief case was when a vehicle hit a Cayuga Heights speed limit sign causing damage to the
post. A resident reported that the post to his mailbox had been broken off sometime during the overnight
causing damage. The resident found the mailbox still attached to the broken post in his driveway. During
an overnight, two different residents had their vehicle back windows broken out by an unknown subject. A
2x2 wooden stake, which had apparently been used to cause the damage, was found on the ground by one
vehicle. A11 of the criminal mischief cases are still open. There were three violations reported: one for
Harassment and two for Unlawful Trespass. A youth reported that he was being harassed by another while
sledding on the hill near A-lot. The youth stated that he had a dispute with another youth who held him
face first in the snow. Both mothers of the youths arrived and all spoke with the officer. A11 came to an
agreement that the incident was over and that any discipline wouldbe addressedat home by the parents.
One of the unlawful trespass cases was reported by a female who had recently seprirated from her husband
aftet a domestic dispute. The female stated that a male subject, that she believes was her husband, was
found in the apartment by a maintenance person while he was there to change the locks. The complainant
reported that her husband was not allowed to be at the apartment. The investigating officer was advised by
the complainant's attorney that the divorce case is still pending and that no determination had been made as
to the rights of the apartment. The case was closed with no further action by this department. An
employee of Kendal reported a vehicle shrck in the field on Kendal properfy. The driver of the vehicle
stated that he was visiting friends and drove onto the field to have some fun. A tow truck was contacted
and pulled the vehicle out. The complainant just wanted the incident on file but did not want to press
charges. There were four village ordinance compiaints: two for Dog Control, one Firework complaint and
one Curfew complaint. The ofhcer observed 2 youths out during the early moming hours on their bicycles.
Both were transported to a village residence and handed over to the parent. During the month of December
there were three Vehicle and Traffic complaints: two for parking problems and one miscellaneous
complaint. There were a total of one hundred forty-one miscellaneous complaints handled by this
department for the month of December.
During the month of December, Chief Lansing was again active in the planning and the distribution of toys
for the Cops, Kids and Toys Program. The Cayuga Heights Police Department was one of many drop off
sites for the public to leave their donations. Also during December, the police department received
numerous requests for property checks due to a number ofresidents leaving the area for the holidays.
The full time officers worked 87 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 149.5 hours. There
was a total of $3 10 reported lost or stolen and $410 in property recovered for the month of December.
Sincerely,
KenneYh W. Lansins
Chief of Police
