There werc 23 EMS calls and 20 fire runs. We had 24 incidents in the Village of Cayuga Heights, 15 incidents in the Town of Ithaca and we were requested mutual aid 4 times. We had several calls of note last month. On October 31st crews were out on our annual Halloween Night public relations event and vve were flagged down at the corrrer of Klinewoods Road and the Parkway for flames coming from a light fixture on the porch. R241 stopped and the crew grabbed the fire extinguisher from the truck and put out the fire before it spread. Investigation reveled that the only time the resident ever turns the light on is on Halloween and over the past year abird took up residence in the light fixture. The nest was a total loss but no injuries were reported to the bird. Twice during the month of October we were requested by the Lansing Fire Deparlment to assist at motor vehicle crashes in their district. Both of these incidents required extended extrication times due to significant vehicle damage and injuries to the occupants. Our crews worked hand in hand with the Lansing Fire Deparlment at these incidents. We are very pleased with this positive relationship we have with our neighboring deparlments. Since we train and work together so much it is like working with members of our own department when we are on calls in our district or theirs. We completed all three of our recruit training sessions for the fall. All the recruits made it through the in house training and are working on their checklists to get off probation. In looking ahead to the spring we have determined that we will run another recruit class with a smaller group. We have several people who have expressed interest in joining the <lepartment. Asst. Chief Matt Abbinanti has been the lead instructor and facilitator for our training program for several years but will be leaving some time in 2010. For the spring class he will be stepping back and training his replacement' We held our Annual Open House on October 17th. Everybody seemed to have a good, time. It was a little chilly during the day but thankfully it did not rain or snow. It was very well attended by the community and all the kids had fun with the truck rides, obstacle course, fire extinguisher trailer and other demonstrations put on by members of "HELP PREVEIVT FIRES'' the department. As always the food provided by the fire company was a hit as well. Kids never seem to be able to get enough free hot dogs and grilled cheese. The new Durango is now in service with the department. It is a huge improvement on the oid jeep. We would like the board to approve a resolution to sell the Jeep at this time. L231 was sent to the vendor for a warranty paint repair in early October. It took several weeks to get the truck back but it was worth the wait. E-Ones solution to the paint bubbling at the weld site was to replace the entire side of the truck with a new seamless panel. It took us a few days to get used to the new look but hopefully this will fix the problem for good. Things at the fire department very stable at this time. We have a great group of protecting the Village and the Town.volunteers doins an Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent EMERGENCY CALLS i 43 TOTAL CALLS YEAR TO DATE: 425 Total Calls - 43 Fire Calls - 20 EMS Calls - 23 Total Mutual Aid - 4 Calls in the Yillage - 24 Calls in the Town - 15 TRAINING / MEETINGS / EVENTS: 10/3 - Recruit Training 1014- Company Meeting 1Ol7 - Fire Training - Water Supply 10113 & 10114 - Fire Training - SCBA Recert 10117 - Open House 10122 - Fire Training - Search of the fire building 10131 - Recruit Training UPCOMING EVENTS: 1111 - Gompany Meeting 1114 - Fire Training - Ropes and Knots 11110 - Fire Council 11111- Fire Training - Forcible Entry 1212- EMS - Annual GMEs for EMTs 12116 - Fire Training - Fire Department Jeopardy Cayuga Heights Fire Department Fire Department:55002 Companies:All Date Range:From 10/01/2009 to 10/31/2009 BoxlZonel Gode:All District:All Situation Found:All Exclude Mutual Aids:No Exclude Exposures: No Incident Run Log ncident#Date Address Occupant Situation FoundTime NUmOer Attendin 1009-090384-00 10/02/2009 08:09 - CO detector activation due to Dispatched by TC91 1 for CO alarm in a residence.
