Re: Report of the police Department for August 2009
For.the month of Augustlhere were_ 133 complaints reported to the police department and 2 motor vehicleaccidents investigated. There were 5l traffic ticket issued and no pur?rng tickets written.
For the month of August, tl.l. y"1. 19 felony complaints. There were eight misdemeanors reported: threefor Petit Larceny, two for criminal Mischief, two for Fraud and one for I-dentity ri,"t. one theft was thereport of an IPoD taken from an unlocked vehicle while parked in the resident;s driveway. The other twolarcenies were reports of bicycles taken from the yards oi th. ho*"owners. one complainant observed amale subject taking the bicycle from the front yardand riding off on it. while the officer was checking thearea, another call was received concerning a bicycle left in ihe fronryard of another residence and one ofhis bicycles taken' After checking the arJa and unable to locate the subject responsible for the thefts, theofficer responded to the home of the second theft and recovered the first complainant,s bicycle. All petitlarceny cases are still open' one criminal mischief case was the report of eggs which had been thrown atthe front of the residence. The complainant believed that the incident took place while she had been out oftown for a week' The second criminal mischief reported was that a subject had been writing on thebathroom wall of a business. The business owner hai a description but not the name of the subject. Thebusiness owner was advised to contact the police department ii ttre suulect returned. one fraud case wasthe report by a resident that she wired money to a subject in canada who stated that he was the lawyer forher nephew' The subject further stated thai her nephew had been arrested and needed bail money. Theresident then talked to a subject who sounded as if he could be her nephew. The resident wired therequested amount of money. The next moming after trying to contact her nephew or his parents, theresident called this department' The nephew was finally coniacted in New t";k'Cit uni *u, advised bythe offjcer to check his credit history foi signs of identi$, theft. The complainant was advised that this wasa scam and ifshe received another phone call to do a "ill t ur. and let this department k;; The secondfraud case was a similar attempted icam. A resident of Kendal received a phone call from a mate subjectwho stated that he was her nephew and asked for money to be wired to him in Illinois as he wanted to cometo comell for a reunion and. needed the money for transportation. The resident played along with the callerobtaining as much information that she could. she phoned h", o"ph.* und found out that h-.e knew nothingabout the request for mon^ey andjn.fact he was presently out of the counfry. A resident reported a possibleidentity theft by the use ofone ofhis credit cardsr.vhich had been expired for several years. The credit cardfraud department had advised him of the fraudulent.use of his personal information. Attempts had beenmade to open charge accounts at different stores but the accounts had been denied and no purchases made.
There were eight violations reported: seven for Disorderly conduct and one for Harassment' All the

harassment.
Five village ordinance complaints were received by this denartmgltt four for Dog control and one for
being in sunset park after Hourr. There were-tivo;-ir".*uo"ous vehicre and rraffic problems reported'
During the month of August there were on, n*ir"J unJ t.n miscellaneous complaints reported to this
department.
officer Lanning attended a two day seminar concerning school safety which was held at the Ithaca School
Board Building. Sgt Si"io*"t" dii a class presentatioi at the Trumansburg Driver Education Class about
safe driving and the u.ii"r" and traffic h*J. &;;;oy." -a officer wri*ght attended a one day class in
;lbC abJJthe handling and processing ofjuvenile cases'
DuringthemonthofAugustthefulltimeofficersworked68.5hoursofovertimeandthepart-timeofficers
