August 2, 2004
Village of Cayuga Heights
Zoning Board of Appeals
Present: Mirian Kira, Joe Petrillose, Peter McClelland, Ken Robinson, Robin Cisne
Attendee: Vivian Hsiao, 118 Randolph Rd.
Meeting is opened at 7:00 pm
Robin introduces all members and explains how the meeting will be run.
Vivian Hsaio is requesting to construct a 7’ high fence, which is greater than the 4’
allowed by Section 9 of the Village of Cayuga Heights Zoning Ordinance, at 118
Randolph Rd. She wants to extend the fence 8 ft. to the left and right behind her
property, which backs up to Sheraton Drive and the Clarion Motel.
She explained that people use her backyard as a walkthrough, so she would like to extend
the fence so people can’t go through. This will reduce the 15’ setback to a 7’ setback –
she brought pictures to show the fence. She stated that both neighbors are in favor of the
plan.
Peter suggested thorn bushes to her; Peter also suggested barberry bushes instead of a
fence. Ken stated that this would help but that it would not be very attractive; it would
serve as a hedge.
At 7:22 the public portion of the meeting was closed.
Mirian feels that the extra fence will not solve the problem. Thorn bushes would be more
effective. Joe also does not feel it will solve the problem, and that even the bushes might
not work. Robin feels a combination of the two may be the best idea. Her land butts up
to the Village of Lansing and Sheraton Drive is a very busy road.
MOTION by Peter McClelland to grant the Variance with a suggestion of barberry
bushes. Seconded by Robin Cisne. All are in favor and approve the motion
unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30pm.
