1001 Highland Rd. - Lennox
We request a variance to allow us to construct a fence to protect a service dog we will be
getting in June this year. More specifically, we cite the following reasons:
1. The service dog is a licensed assistance canine for our 12-year-old, Hannah. The dog will
become a large part of Hannah's life, and thus any injury or death of the animal would
naturally have severe consequences for Hannah. Additionally, the dog is trained
specifically for our daughter's medical needs, and this training represents a roughly
$20,000 investment. As part of the regulations governing a service animal, we are not
allowed to use an "invisible fence" system or a staked leash, thus making a protective
fence the only option.
2. The fence will provide a significant benefit for us--protecting the service dog--with none
or very little impact on the neighborhood. The fence will be 90%open throughout its
length, and almost entirely hidden from the road in a thick hedge and tree growth along
the sides and back-side of the property. The variance will allow us to place the fence
slightly within the hedge growth area along Remington Rd, and thus to avoid having the
fence cut across the existing lawn open area.
3. We have a corner lot, and although we recognize that the Village considers lot frontage
on any road to be subject to the setback requirements, the fenced area consists of part
of our backyard only, along Remington, with no intrusion on the large frontage on
Highland.
Thank you for considering our petition.
