Subject: Attachment to Kretinger fence variance application
Hi Brent,
Could you please add this text to the reasons for the variance request?Perhaps you could print this
email out and attach to the application.
We would like to:
1) Protect our health and safety of ourselves and our visitors by minimizing the number of deer ticks in
the yard and therefore the risk of Lyme and other tick borne diseases. Joe Kreitinger contracted a
case of Lyme disease in fall 2011 from a tick in our yard and we have found an increasing number of
ticks in our yard over the past 5 years. Mary Kreitinger's father(who lived in Duchess County)died
from complications associated with the treatment of Lyme and Babesia.Tick borne diseases are a
serious threat to our health and safety and decreasing the risk in our yard is of great importance to
us.The deer make a habit of both passing through our yard and bedding down there in the wooded
area. If the fence is at the 25'set-back the deer will still be able to pass through the back of our yard
and bed down there. It is much preferred and will be much more effective to keep them completely
out of the yard with regards to reducing the incidence of Lyme and other tick borne diseases.
2) Protect our gardens, plantings and the native flora in our yard.We have lost thousands of dollars
and many hours of work from deer that have devoured our gardens and other plantings. We have
seen the native flora reduced to honeysuckle and garlic mustard. The ecology of our lot is greatly
out of balance. We would like to have the freedom to plant any materials, not just deer resistnt
materials, throughout our yard and allow the native flora to rebound.
Thanks,
Mary
