Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting
August 1, 2011
MINUTES UNTIL BOARD APPROVAL
Present: Members B. Powers and A. Watkins. Alternates M. Eisner and A. Shull.
Code Enforcement Officer: B. Cross, Attorney K. Gutenberger, and VCH Deputy Clerk A.

1. Meeting called to order
Chair J. Young was absent for the meeting. A. Watkins volunteered to serve as acting Chair.
Motion: M. Eisner
Second: B. Powers
ALLOWING A.WATKINS TO SERVE AS ACTING CHAIR
RESOLVE, that A. Watkins will serve as Acting Chair in the place of Chair J. Young for the
August 1, 2011 meeting
Aye votes- All in favor
Opposed- None
Meeting officially called to order by Acting Chair A. Watkins at 7:10 pm.
Acting Chair A. Watkins appointed Alternates M. Eisner and A. Shull as voting members during
the meeting.
2. Approval of January 24, 2011 and July 12, 2011 minutes
Motion: B. Powers
Second: M. Eisner
APPROVING MINUTES OF JANUARY 24, 2011
RESOLVE, that the written, reviewed and revised minutes of January 24, 2011 meeting are hereby
approved.
Aye votes – All in favor
Opposed- None
July 12, 2011 minute approval tabled until next meeting.

3. Sign Variance Application
Applicant, Tim Ciaschi, submitted an application for an area variance in order to increase the
number of signs at Community Corners and increase the total square footage of signs.
Acting Chair A. Watkins opened the floor for public comment. No members of the public
wished to comment.
The board had several questions regarding the proposed signs. The applicant was not in
attendance to answer questions. The board did not want to vote on the variance without having
their questions answered by the applicant. Attorney K. Gutenberger recommended keeping the
public hearing open and voting at the next meeting.
Motion: A. Shull
Second: B. Powers
TO KEEP THE PUBLIC HEARING OPEN
RESOLVE, that the public hearing will remain open until the next scheduled board
meeting.
Aye votes – All in favor
Opposed- None
The next regularly scheduled meeting date falls on Labor Day. The meeting will be moved to
Tuesday, September 6 and will be held at the Cayuga Heights Fire Department. Deputy Clerk A.
Korbel will post notice in the Ithaca Journal.
Attorney K. Gutenberger informed the board that because the board announced the continuation
of the public hearing during the meeting there was no need to post in the Ithaca Journal.
4. Adjourn
Acting Chair A. Watkins adjourned the meeting at 7:50 PM
