BoYce Chief of Police August 6,2009 To: The Honorable MaYor Gilmore Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Re: Report of the Police Department for July 2009 For the month of July there were 148 complaints reported to the police deparlment and 2 motor vehicle accidents investigateci. There were 35 traffic tickets issued and 2 parking tickets written' For the month of July there was one felony complaint: Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. A resident reported that her unlocked vehicle had been stolen from her driveway sometime during the night' The resident did state that the keys had been left in the vehicle in error. While on patrol, an officer observed a vehicle matching the description of the one stolen parked in an area mall. The plate number was verified and the complainant was contacted to respond to obtain her vehicle. There were two misdemeanors reported: both for Petit Larceny. A resident of Kendal reported that cash had been removed from her p*r". th. resident had placed her purse on the back of the chair while dining and then left without taking it with her. When she realized her error she retumed and found the purse l-nin* tfr. money. A resiient reported that a suitcase was missing from her garage and believed it had been taken sometime within the past 10 days. Both larceny cases are still open. Two violations were reported for the month of July: both for Disorderly Conduct' One-complaint was caused by loud voices which disturbed or annoyed another person. The subjects responsible were advised of the complaint and there were no more probl"-r. The other noise complaint dealt with a device in a subject,s yard which was a motion detectoi for deer which would emit a loud buzzingnoise when set off' Apparentiy the device was malfunctioning and the buzzing sound was continuous' As the homeowner was away atthetime of the complaint, the officer shut the device off and left a message at the residence. There was one village ordinance complaint which concerned a Solicitor's permit. There were three miscellaneous Vehicle and Traffic pioblems reported. There were one hundred and thirfy-nine miscellaneous complaints repoded to ihis department for the month of July' A bicycle which had been reported stolen to this department in March 2009 was recovered in the city of Ithaca. The complainant was notified, identified the bicycle and took possession ofit' All full time and part-time officers participated in this department's long gun qualihcations. held at the Ithaca police Department range. Ali full time officers attended a training held at the Tompkins County public Safety nultaing for Live Scan which will be implemented for fingerprinting. The officers learned about the compute6oit*ur" involved in the program and also the procedures for taking the frngerprints and photographs. As of January 2010, all police departments are required to use the program. During the month of July the full time officers worked 110 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 170 hours.
