Re: Report of the Police Department for June 2009
For the month of June there were 99 complaints reported to the police department and no motor vehicle
accidents investigated, There were 2l traffic tickets issued and I parking ticket written.
For the month of June there were no felony complaints. There were two misdemeanors reported: one for
Criminal Mischief and one for Identity Theft. A complainant repofted that the hood of his vehicle had been
damaged, as if someone had deliberately used an object to scratch it. He noticed the damage after the
vehicle had been parked at the Cayuga Heights School, This has been an ongoing problem. The
complainant would get the damage repaired and then it would happen again. It was finally determined that
the damage had been caused by a piece of metal sticking out in the complainant's garage which would
scratch the vehicle when it was driven in and out. This case was closed as unfounded as well as two other
cases concerning the vehicle's damage. A resident reported a case ofidentity theft as there were frauduient
charges on his debit card. The resident had already notified his bank and a block was put on his card.
There were eight violations repofted for the month of June: seven for Disorderly Conduct and one for
Harassment. All the disorderly conduct cases were reports of loud music or loud voices. In all incidents,
the persons responsible were advised of the complaints and there were no further problems. The
harassment complaint involved a tenant and his landlord's wife. The tenant was upset with the excessive
amount of requests to have access to the apartment and intemrpting his daily life. The wife and the
landlord were in the middle of a divorce proceeding and it had not been agreed upon who was the actually
landlord of the properfy. As it was a civil case, the wife was advised to have no contact with the tenants
until she had paperwork in hand indicating that she was the landlord.
There was one Village Ordinance complaint for dog control involving an ongoing problem with a dog
barking during the early morning hours.
There were two Vehicle and Traffic problems reported. There were eighty-six miscellaneous complaints
reported to this department for the month of June.
During the month of June, Chief Boyce and Sgt" Steinmetz attended a one day conference in Cazenovia for
Civil Rights hosted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Chief Boyce, Sgt, Steinmetz and Officer
Lanning attended a one day seminar on school safety put on by the Tompkins County Department of
Emergency Response in Ithaca. Officer Wright, with the assistance of Officer Cary, conducted the annual
bike rodeo at the Northeast School. Officer Honan represented this department at the Ithaca Community
Childcare Center by showing the police car at their annual vehicle/truck show. Officer Lanning held his
Dare Graduation for 3 classes at the Cayuga Heights School. All fulI time officers attended a 1 day training
in Corning on updates for the new Datamaster.
During the month of June, the full time officers worked 59 hours of overtime and the part-time officers
worked 170.5 hours.
