Dear Bob,
I had considered a variety of options to address this "chicken and egg"
problem, and I neglected to suggest to the Board at Monday's meeting a proposed approach, much like
your suggestion. Of course, there was no way to appoint new Planning Board members before the new
law was passed. Now that it will be the law of the Village, I propose that the Mayor appoint and the Board
of Trustees approve, on a temporary basis, five of the Trustees to serve on the Planning Board. These
temporary appointments would be by resolution of the Board, and would specifically be temporary until
the new Planning Board appointments have been made.
I would suggest having this action on the May agenda. In order to do so, the Mayor should identify the
five Trustees who will temporarily fill the Planning Board seats.
Very truly yours,
Randy

Subject: Independent planning board
Hi Randy,
I should have asked this in the moment, but failing that I'll ask it now.
When we passed the Independent Planning Board into law, you mentioned we needed to fill the positions
soon because we essentially no longer have a planning board. I think we want to move quickly, but also
deliberately to ensure we're staffing the board with the best talent possible. With that in mind, should we
be thinking about passing a resolution or ammendment to the law that says the Trustees will remain the
Planning Board until such time the full Independent Planning Board has been appointed?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Bob
