There were 22 incidents in the Viilage of Cayuga Heights, 12 incidents in the Town of Ithaca and 6 requests for mutual aid. It was another steady month of routine calls. There were 22 E}y'ts runs and 18 fire calls. We had some outstanding training in March. We had training on Fire Scene Preservation that was taught by Chris Hamilton, one of our firefighters. Chris is a firefighter for the City of Ithaca and is on their fire investigation team. This training pointed out ways to preserve a fire scene after the fire is out so the cause and origin can be determined. We also had training on Aerial Operations. At this training we took the ladder truck out and did drills on moving the ladder safely under different conditions. All operators of this piece of equipmenl need to be familiar with the ladder as well as being proficient with pump operations asl well. Late in the month a large group went down to the inlet to do drafting drills. While our entire district is protected by fire hydrants all of our trucks can pump water frornL a standing water source and we all need to refresh these skills from time to time. This was an outstanding training taught by Lt. Dave Openshaw. Lt. Joe Lisi taught our annLual atropine auto injector recertification in March- We are looking forward to the summer months when we slow down our training program a little while people are on vacatlions. We are pushing our fall recruits to work on interior checklist items and out spring recruits to get through their probationary checklists. We have some big events coming up this spring at the station. Our Annual Installation Banquet will be on April 18tn. We look forward to this event every year as a way to recognize and applerud our accomplishments for the past year. In May we will have our 2"" Annual Community Yard sale. This event started last year and we look forward to continuing the tradition for years to come. The fire company has been asked to earmark the yard sale money for a worthwhile project and it is in the works to use the money from the yard sale and lrom this year's donation letter to purchase a Lifepack 15 Cardiac Monitor/Defibrillator. The monitor we currently use is a Lifepack 12. This monitor only allows us to use a three lead look al a cardiac rhythm and to defibrillatelpacelcardiovert adult patients. The new monitor will allow us to do all the same things on adults as well ,, HE,LF PR"EVENT FTRES'' as children. It will also allow us to do 12 lead EKGs in the field and monitor Pulse Oximitry, Capnography, Carbon Monoxide levels and continuous Blood Pressure monitoring with one piece of equipment. This piece of equipment is just being fielded by Physio Control, the manufacturer of this item. The cost of the LP15 is around 20K with a trade in of our current monitor. We are very excited about this possible acquisition but it does require a full company vote and our next meeting is not until May 3'o. I hope to be able to ieport back at ihe trrtay Board Meeting that we have moving forward with this project. The members have been working very hard this spring to keep the startion looking great. We did a thorough cleaning of the apparatus bay when the weather turned waffn recently. As the wafin weather continues we will move outside the station with our cleaining and ensure that our lawn looks good for the summer months. We are scheduling replacement of the carpet in the rest of the bunker rooms for early June. Our ne'w thermal imaging camera is on order at this time. Lt. Joe Lisi and I are working on developing a spec to purchase the SCBA compressor and have it installed this summer. We are extremely grateful to the board for allowing us to move forward with all of these projects. Our bunkers are doing very well. They are the ones primarily responsible for taking care of the station. We do have three members who will be spending the summer at the station. They are all working in the Ithaca area this strnmer but were between housing leases. They will be staying in the ovemight rooms for the sunrmer between the end of the spring term and the beginning of the fall term. They will all be expected to fill the ru*. resonsibilities that the full time bunkers do while they are staying at the station. There is past precedent for this "summer Bunking" program and it always works out well for the department. It is nice to have the extra people at the station during our historically low manpower times" Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent .q YTRFPNCY,CAI,S, ^4g rorAl CALLS YEAR ro pArE I rr4Total Calls - 40 pire Cails _T Totar Mutual Aid - 6 EMS calls - 22 Calls in the Village - 22 Calls in the Town _ 12 ?ry- Company Meeting 3/5 - Fire Training - Fiie Scene preservation 3110 - Fire Training - Aerial Operations 3118 - Fire Training - FAST 3125 - EMS Training UPCOMING EVENTS: 412 - OSHA Training 413 - OSHA Training 1l?- Company Meeting - Annual Elections 415 - Fire Council 417 - Fire Training - Roll in drills 4115 - Fire Training - Small pumps 4118 - Annual Banquet 4122 - Fire Training - FAST Cayuga Heights Fire DePartment Fire Department:55002 Companies:All " Date Range: From 03/01/2009 to 03/31/2009 BoxlZonel Gode:AIl District:All Situation Found:All Exclude Mutual Aids:No Exclude Exposures: No Incident Run Log ncident#Date Occupant Situation FoundTimeAddress tYutttuEl Attendir Called for smoke condition at laundry mat.
