The one we have is too long as it is"' This meeting would i"rouu the burden of conducting the regular, necessary and largely non-controversial elements of Village business from the agenda of theLvening meeting' The single meeting we hold each month runs as much as 5 hours or more which I believe impacts our ability to consider and decide issues effectively, Removing the regular, largely non-controversial elements of Village business to a second, time-gated meeting -witt s1roiten the evening meeting and hopefully improve it's efficiency' why a lunchtime meeting and why the 3rd week of the month? 3 reasons: 1. Holding the meeting mid-day (let's assume lunchtime) allows us to hear the department head reports during-part of their-working day. Though they might choose to, they would not be required to attend the evening meetings unless someilring specific to their area is being addressed. 2. Meeting from 12:00-1:30 pM recognizes that we should be able to conduct these non-controversial functiois of Village management in an adequate, but finite timeframe' 3. Because of the way our bills accumulate, we wouldn't be in position to pay them until about the 3rd week of the month, henie the recommendation to move the evening meeting in the 3rd week to a lunchtime meeting and establish an additional evening earlier in the month' Would we invite Public comment? We would of course invite public attendance, but not hold privilege of the floor, This meeting would be really designed to conduct, in tt''r" public eye, ttre necessary, but non-controversial on-going business of the Village. I looked at the Village of Lansing's website and see that (since 2006) they hold as many as 5 meetings per month - 2-3 trustee-meetings plus as many as 2 Planning Board meetings. The Village of Groton appears to meet 3 times a month - twice as Trustees and a loint Recommendation committee plus a regularly scheduled planning board meeting. I believe Village of Dryden meets 2 separate times per month - once as Trustees, once separately as a Planning Board' Open to thoughts, comments, etc... Best, Bob Robert C.
