Mayor to sign cooperative agreement for Fire Protec-
tion between the Village and Cornell University.'
b) Approved hiring of Mrs.'Rae L. Nelson as

at salary of $75.00
per month (10 months per

February 1, 1957•
c) Hearing by State
Department of Public Works on Route 13
realignment in
Ithaca and north of Ithaca scheduled for February 21, 1957 was discussed. It .
was the desire and so
VOTED by the Board that they be represented at the hearing by the Mayor and
Trustees Sharp and Williams. Trustee Sharp offered the following resolution '
to be presented at the Hearing and moved its adoption:
RESOLVED that the Village Board is opposed to so- called Route 13B and recom-
mends to the State Department of Public Works the active study of the newly
advanced plan for State Highway Route 13 realignment, which alignment branches
off from Route 13 northeast of Dryden, and proceeds south of McLean through
West Dryden to the intersection of State Route 34 and 34A at Estes, and to
study feasible means for proceeding from Estes to the southeast corner of the
Lake without encroaching on the Village of Cayuga Heights or interfering with
the new village sewer system and sewage disposal plant. The Village Board be-
lieves that this alignment may offer a longer range, more comprehensive solu-
tion to the northeast traffic routing problem.
Seconded by Trustee Williams. Carried unanimously.
4. Attorney Newman absent.
a) Engineer Crandall reported that Attorney Newman hoped to have agreement
by Mr. Liberman or the stipulations to close out the condemnation matter in a
few days.
b) VOTED to authorize the Mayor and Clerk to sign the Greater Ithaca Regional
Planning Board agreement, and further to authorize the Treasurer to pay the
$1,000 contribution for 1957 from the contingency account of the General Fund
when requested to do so by Attorney Newman..
5. The January 1957 report of the Police Department was received and filed.
6. Fire Commissioner Sayles reported:
a) Fire Department Budget for 1957 -58 has been presented to Fiscal Officer
Upchurch.
b) Requested proper liability insurance coverage on Fire Chief Quinlanls
personal automobile when occasionally used in Village Fire Department work.
Clerk advised was being studied by McKinney and G. Felton for their recommenda-
tion. Village now carries employee non - ownership liability insurance which may
cover or may be broadened to properly cover.
c) Recommended that 100% of the monies received from Town of Ithaca Fire Pro-
tection Contract be put in special reserve for Fire Department purposes.. Ac-
cordingly Trustee Simpson offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLVED that 100% of the monies collected from the Town of Ithaca Fire Protec-
tion Contract be put in a Reserve Fund for Fire Department purposes, subject to approv-
al of the Board action by Village Attorney Newman.
Seconded by Trustee Williams. Carried unanimously.
d) Noted certain deficiencies in the Village office building, and it was
VOTED to instruct the Clerk to write a letter to Mrs.'McPherson serving notice to
correct these conditions.
7. Engineer reported progress on sewer project. Work is continuing at a good rate
and completion by May is a possibility.
8. Treasurer presented his report for January which showed balances as follows on
1/31(57:
a) General Fund $54,206.62
Capital Fund - Sewer 7,290.68
Report was ordered filed.
b) It was VOTED to authorize the Treasurer to renew the March 15, 1956,.
$50,000 Bond Anticipation Note (Treatment Plant) for one year.
c) Moved by Trustee Simpson, seconded t4' Trustee O'Connor it was
VOTED to transfer $16,000 from the General Fund to the Water and Sewer Capital Reserve
Fund.

9. No special report from the Clerk.
10. Proposed traffic ordinance was ordered submitted to Attorney Newman for review
of changes suggested by Engineer Crandall, and to then be mimeographed'and submitted
to Trustees on or before the next meeting.
It was suggested that revision of V Mowing and Care of Property be worked
up by Mr. George and Mr. Kent, and that Mr. O'Connor get's copy of the Ithaca City
ordinance on garbage for study in this connection.
11. It was decided to defer consideration of budget, and meeting was recessed at
11:55 P.m. until 4 P.M.Februaxy 20, 1957.
