MINUTES of a Special Meeting of the Village Board held on August 2, 1955 at
5 P.M. at the Village Office.
PRESENT: Mayor Henry J. Shiroy; Trustees N. A. Christensen, F. G. Marcham,
T. F. Sharp, James R. Simpson, H. H. Williams and T. P. Wright; Engineer, Carl
Crandall; Treasurer, Frederic M. Upchurch.
1. The following General Fund bills were approved for payment (See Schedule $4
attached to minutes of this date).
2. The Trustees approved the transfer of $4112.64 from First National Bank
Savings Account, "Capital Reserve Fund - Water and Sewer" to Tompkins County Trust
Compare* checking account "Capital Fund - Sewer".
The following "Capital Fund - Sewer" bills were approved for payment (See
Schedule ,#tyS attached to minutes of this date).
3. The Trustees approved'pgyment of bill for $737.89 from City of Ithaca Water
& Sewer Department to cover materials for telemetering device installed at Cayuga
Heights water tank, from funds in the First National Bank Savings Account "Capital
Reserve Fund - Water and Sewer ". The installation of this device to improve water
pressure was previously authorized by the Trustees. (See minutes of February 1, 1955)
4. The Trustees approved arrangement made by Board of Fire Commissioners with
Corners Community Center, Inc. for rental of Fire Truck Stall at $100 per month on
a month to month basis. This is to provide for truck space from expiration of the
lease period 8115155 with Pritchard's Corners Station until the Fire Station is
ready for occupancy.
5. The Trustees accepted the resignation, with thanks for her fine services,
of Mrs. Edith Schoel, Office Secretary, effective July 31, 1955,
6. The Trustees approved the appointment by the Mayor of Mrs. Vera W. Snyder,
as Office Secretary (Typist, part time) effective August 1, 1955 at a salary rate
of $1500 per year, payable $125 monthly for the usual2O hours per week. Also
approved the payment for temporary services of Mrs. Sreder for period 7/3.1-7/29/55,
at the same rate.
7. The final report of resigned Treasurer Oliver, as of July 1, 1955, was
received and ordered filed. This report showed balances as follows:
General Fund 53. 271.31
Capital - Fire Dept. Account 43.65

8. Trustee and Fire Commissioner Simpson reported that plans for the Fire
Station and Village Office were about complete and would be ready for bids August
12, 1955.
9. The Trustees referred to Engineer Crandall a letter from W. C. Geer in
' which he recommended that the Village take prompt steps to secure right -of -way
and satisfy legal requirements to obtain its supply of water from Cayuga lake.
10. The Mayor reported on several matters as follows:

I. The Fire Station lot is now the property of the Village, the necessary
legal steps in conveying the property from the Corners Community Center, Inc. having
been completed.
II. The Engineer has.been active on sewer plans as indicated by:
a) Request to Town of Ithaca for water tap from lake Road water main.
b) Request to Lehigh Valley Railroad for right -of -way for sewer outfall.
c) Request to New York State Department of Public Works for permit to
cross Lake Road (State Highway 34) with sewer outfall and gas service
and to excavate on east edge for water service.
d) Request to Mayor for checks to New York State Department of Public
Works in connection with item (c), one for $3.06 for insurance premium
and one for $250 (certified) as deposit to be returned after satisfac-
tory completion of construction. (See bills approved under Capital
Reserve - Sewer) .
e) Report that Engineer had signed a land contract memo with Maurice C.
Avery on 7/29/55 at a figure of $4500, for lard at he site of-the
sewage plant.
f) Request to Leonard Be Liberman for an offering price on land and rights -
of way at the site of the sewage plant.
11. Further reports of the Engineer were:
a) Request to City of Ithaca Water & Sewer Department for approval of a
350' extension of the 8" sewer at the upper end of.Country Club Road
to serve Pi Beta Phi, Paul Brainard and F. H. Woodcock, and for
service until changeover of sewage disposal from-City to Village.
b) Request to City of Ithaca,Water & Sewer Department for opinion and
estimated cost on installation of three hydrants on North Sunset
Drive, assuming that City is willing to authorize additional hydrants.
c) That sewer plans would bb submitted about August 10th to the State
Health Department and if approval is obtained by September 1st; he
would anticipate calling for bids October let, a bond issue vote in
early October and contract award in November.
d) That duplicate sets of plans would be ready about August 10th, so
that the Clerk could submit the same to the State Department of Public
Works with request for payment of $3,000 on the grant in aid contract.
12. The Clerk was requested by the Trustees to give some publicity to the Sewer
Plans and to exhibit maps and plans supplied by the Engineer in theVillage Office for
the information of-the Village residents.
