PRESENT:. H. J. Shirey, Mayor E. A. Whiting, Trustee F. G. Marcham, Trustee. A. W. Chamberlain, Trustee C. H. Guise, Treasurer Carl.Crandall, Engineer. Lowell T. George, Police Commissioner 1. By invitation the new Police Justice, Lindley C. Kent, and the new Police Patrolman Leslie Fowler, were present and were welcomed by the Mayor and Trustees. IT WAS •VOTED to authorize the printing of traffic summons books and traffic ticket books. Following this there was.a general discussion of the police officer's duties. At this point Police Commissioner George, Police Justice Kent, and Police Patrolman Fowls adjourned.to "a separate meeting for consultation. e2. Mayor Shirey reviet2ed` the situation on Country Club Road and inasmuch as Mr. Colbert had built.•a.satisfactory,road," curb, and sidewalk leading :to the Cornell Residential Club property IT WAS ,VOTED that the, Trustees,of the Village of_Csyuga Heights accept the.Oountry Club.Road as a Village streat.and maintain it in the future. „ 6. Mayor Shirey,brought'-up the recommendation_of Police. Commissioner George that the'Police'Officer should be bonded and IT WAS VOTED that Police Officer Fowler be bonded and that the cost thereof be oharged to the Village.. IT WAS VOTED'to, take out a fidelity bond on the Police Justice in an. appropriate amount and have the invoice for payment charged to-the Village. 7. The Treasurer reported a cash balance on July 31st of $34,692.39. 9. Due to the resignation of Police Officer Van Zile it was VOTED that he be discontinued from the payroll as of August 31, 1953. Inasmuch as Police Officer Fowler started work on August 17th IT WAS VOTED that his salary at the rate of O,300.per year and car allowance of $900 per year be started as.of,August 17,'1953., 9. The Engineer reported that he had advertieed.for, bids for the road surfacing contract according to law and,that the Ithaos. Paving Co. was the only bidder in the amount. of•y04iOS6.50. IT WAS VOTED that lnasmuch.as the Ithaca Paving Co. was the only, bidder on the road surfacing contract it should be awarded �l 1 221 signs . IT WAS VOTED that the slow sign on Hanshaw Road approaching N. Triphammer from the west and the slow,sign on Klinewood approach- ing Midway from the east be approved by the Hoard. IT WAS'VOTED to. amend the Village Traffic Ordinance under section 3 as follows: "Add to Article VI, Section 3. 'The, Engineer presented a zoning map'of.the Village which had been specially prepared indicating the residential, commercial, and.multiple housing"districts. ' IT:WAS VOTED to reduce.this map'to, 2/3 its present size and have 1P200 'co printed' by. the offset process. for.distribution to.-residents. Upon recommendation of the Mayor - IT 4TAS VOTED to order a copy of 'MeKinneyls-Vehicle and Traffic Volume.Justice Practice Manual for Police Justice,Kent: 10. The Engineer presented an inventory of the .stop signs ' that exist in the.newly annexed area of the Village of Cayuga Heights indicating that there were 16 such signs and two .slow. signs . 'IT WAS VOTED that a Public Hearing on.-the above amended ordinance be held on September 15, 1953 at`9,P.M, at 106 Northway Road. 11.1 Police Commissioner George reported that it would be very desirable to have a two way.radio installed in.the police officer's car and that the sheriff'e office was willing to have it hooked into the transmitter used by the sheriff and that he highly favored the purchase of such equipment by the Village. He said the cost would run around 0500 with a maintenance cost.of $90 per year. IT.WAS.VOEED to authorize Police Commissioner George to install a motorola two. -way radio in the police.officer!s car at an approximate cost of 0500 with the understanding that the maintenance cost would run about 090 per year. IT WAS VOTED to authorize the Mayor and the Clerk to sign the maintenance contract on the motorola two way radio at approximately $90 per year. IT WAS VOTED to install.street name signs as follows: Cayuga Heights Road at`Cayuga Park Road Hanshaw Road at Comstock.Road Highland Park at Highland Road Highland Road at Highland Park Hampton Road at Highland Road Klinewood Road at Triphammer Devon Road at N. Sunset' Hanshaw Road at N. Triphammer Country Club Road.at Triphammer Hanshaw Road at Triphammer Triphammer Road at Hanshaw Hanshaw Road at E. Upland , IT WAS VOTED to require Police Officer Fowler to have a Physical examination at the cost of the Village. 1 r J 223',' 12. The Clerk read a communication from The Department of Audit and Control regarding Social Security coverage for Village j employees and IT WAS VOTED to have the maintenance men of the Village covered by Social Security retro - active to Jan. 1;•1952. The Clerk f'ead a letter from Charles I. Bayles in which he declined the position of enforcement officer for the Mitchell Bill. IT WAS VOTED that Carl Crandall be appointed Village fire inspector and local enforcement officer. 13.. Due to the fact that the Clerk had submitted his resigna- tion effective August 31, 1953 a discussion was held as'to,.a successor. The possibility of establishing a central office at the Community Corners was given consideration and also the possibility o hiring a woman to assist the new Clerk and the Treasurer was considered. IT WAS VOTED that Mayor Shirey ask Wilbur S. Randel if he would accept the position of Clerk from September let to Feb. 29, 1954 at -a salary rate of $1,500 per year. IT WAS VOTED to authorize the Clerk to.insert an advertisement, in the'Ithaca Journal advertising an opening for 'a deputy clerk and deputy treasurer. 14. Adjourned at 11:26 P.M. k \V J. $.
