MINUTES of a special meeting of the Board of Trustees *of the
Village of Cayuga Heights held on Friday, July 171 1953 at 7 P.M.
in the schoolhouse.

PRESENT: Henry J. Shirey, Mayor
A. W. Chamberlain, Trustee
Frederick G. Maroham; Trustee
Carl Crandall, Engineer
Harry Gordon, Town Supervisor
Frank B. Howe and Ralph 0. Mandeville, Town Assessors.
1. Mayor Shirey read a report from Police Commissioner George
relative to the traffic condition of Triphammer and Northway Roads,
in which the recommendation was made that a stop sign be placed at
the southwest corner of Midway Road. Police Commissioner George
also recommended placing a stop sign on Berkshire Road at the
northwest corner of the intersection of Cayuga Heights Road.
The report was referred to'Engineer Crandall for action.
2. The letter of.resignation of Police Patrolman 'ZanZile
effective July 31, 1953, was presented to the Trustees.
IT WAS VOTED to accept his resignation and the Clerk was.
directed to thank him for his past services and to express regret
because he is physically unable to oontinue.with the fob.
The Mayor read a letter from Police Commissioner,George in
which he stated that he had called Mr. Silverman, the - Civil
Service Representative in Albany, relative to the appointment of
a new Village Police Officer. In accordance with Mr. Silverman's
suggestion
IT WAS VOTED that the Clerk be authorized to write to Mr.
Silverman advising him that a vacancy exists in the office of
Police Patrolman and requesting that an examination be held in
order to furnish an eligible list.
I T WAS VOTED that "the Trustees waive the rule requiring the ,
applicant to be a resident of the Village and resolve that the

applicant may be a resident of Tompkins County.
IT WAS VOTED that Mr. Van Zile be permitted to purchase the
Village revolver at a price of $25.
IT WAS VOTED that the Police Commissioner be authorized to
hire a new provisional patrolman subject to Civil Servioe approval
under the policy as follows: that the Village will buy a gun and
any other necessary equipment, personal or for his auto, including
stop lights on car and signs, that the police officer shall
furnish his uniform and car and that the Village will pay him $900
mileage and a salary of 03000 per year.
IT WAS VOTED that it was desirable to have a man who lives
within a reasonable distance from the Village.
3: An agreement was reached between the Village Board and the
Town Assessors using
50% of
current market value as
a guide to
'
future assessments on
those
properties lying within
the newly
annexed portion of the Village, starting with the letter "d"
and completing the alphabet.
