MINUTES of a special meeting of the Board'of Trustees of the
Village of Cayuga Heights held on Monday, July 13, 1953 at .7 P.M.
in the schoolhouse.
PRESENT: Henry J. Shirey, Mayor
Sanford S. Atwood, Trustee
Frederick G. Maroham, Trustee
A. W. Chamberlain, Trustee
Carl Crandall, Engineer
Frank B. Howe and Ralph C. Mandeville, Town Assessors
Harry Gordon, Town Supervisor
1. Mayor Shirey presented and read a proposed new contract
between the Village and the City of Ithaca outlining an agreement
for the City to furnish water to the Village. He explained that
this contract was identical with the one now in effect except
that the amount of hydrant rental was increased to $75 per hydrant,
and the purpose of drawing up the new contract was so that the
entire Village including the annexed portion would be covered.
He also presented written suggestions for changes regarding the '
contract as submitted by Engineer Crandall, who pointed out that
there are two contracts in existence already and the new contract
would supersede the old ones. After considerable discussion
IT WAS VOTED that the Mayor and the Clerk be authorized to
sign the contract when ready.
2. There was considerable discussion concerning complaints
received from Villagers about Police Officer Van Zile. Engineer
Crandall pointed out that the office of police patrolman was a
civil service position and an incumbent could not be fired without
following certain outlined procedures. The Board took note of
the complaints and
IT WAS VOTED that the Mayor and police Commissioner be '
authorized to investigate the situation and bring in recommendations
to the Board.

3. Aft agreement was reached between the Village Board and the
Town Assessors, using 50% of current market value as a guide to
future assessments, on those properties lying within-the newly
annexed portion of the Village starting with.the� letter °A^
through
4. A special meeting was called for Friday, July 17th, at
7 P.M. in the schoolhouse to complete the alphabet.
