MINUTES of a regular meeting of the Board
of Trustees.of
the Village of Cayuga Heights,held on Tuesday,
June 2;.1953,.
at 7:30 P.M. at the home of Trustee Marcham, 112 Oak Hill Road.

4. Mayor Shirey reported that "he had discussed the matter
of having the various officers of the Village listed
in the'
telephone directory with Manager. Donald Keep, and found,that.the
previous report was:.correet that this could not be done without a
'
charge';of $5 per month per officer It was therefore decided that
the matter should . be tabled for,.the. present
,
Mayor Shirey repo rt ed ;that,Police`Officer:;VanZile had•,:.
stated that.the'hedge.on.the corner of •the Aichardso`n property :at'
402 Cayuga Heights Road needed to-be cutj'back for better visibility
and gave :a summary:. of, the•complicationa,that:ensued ;. As a. result
of..VanZile.,s:report, the lack, of visibility at : this point was,
investigated: by,the;Mayor, the' Engineer ,- and.Police..Commissioner
George,,and as..a result of: the discussion--:that followed
IT..WAS VOTED that`Mr. Richardson be°requested'to;.remove.the
.rose. bushes .lying: between , his hedge at the corner' of Devon Road
and Cayuga Heights Road' because. of the lack 'of visibility by
'
automobile and school bus. drivers, and that Mr. Richardson be
requested to plant only grass.:in..this,area in.'the future.:
5: Police Commissioner George's report for the month of May
was read by the Clerk and is 'filed herewith as apart of these
minutes. As Police Commissioner George had suggested in his report
the advisability of.purchasing 25 mile per hour.speed limit signs
IT WAS VOTED that Police Commissioner George be authorized to
purchase such type and quantity of speed limit signs as in his
judgment he thought desirable.:
6. Mayor.Shirey'reported on the new proposed Zoning Ordinance,
which it was decided,would.be an amendment'to .. the -present ;Zoning
Ordinance iY adopted.. It.was agreed that.copies of'.this °,proposed
ordinance should be, made. and mailed out._, to the Trustees so'-that they
would have opportunity to study same prior to'the.next. meeting. 'It
was decided that Prof. Mackesey'should be invited to the next
meeting of the Board at which the main order of busineas would
be the consideration of the new zothing ordinance amendment.
7. Treasurer.Guise reported a cash balance on May 31st
of $4,969.90.
B. The Engineer.reported :that the village limit signs.had
been placed•at'the.new.Village limits.:.....
9. The Clerk reported the receipt.of a copy of a resolution
adopted by the Board of Supervisors of Tompkins County.on. May
11, 1953 as follows:
"WHEREAS, the boundaries of the Village of Cayuga Heights
were extended as of April 1, 1953, as a result of which portions,
of certain county roads-are now located within the corporate
limits of said village; and
WHEREAS, village officials of the Village of Cayuga Heights have
indicated their willingness to take over and maintain all of said,
roads as village streets, but have requested that North Tri -ohammer
Road No. 122 should not be removed from the county road system
until a contemplated widening project has been completed;
RESOLVED, upon recommendation of the County Superintendent
of Highways and subject to the approval of the Superintendent of
Public Works, that the following described portions of county
roads now located in the Village of Cayuga Heights be removed
from the County Road System as of January 1, 1954:

Pleasant Grove Road #122, from the south boundary
of the Cornell University gol£ course northerly
to Hanshaw State Highway #906. 3210 feet .6o8
Triphammer Road #166 from the north boundary of the
City of Ithaca northerly to State Highway #606.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Superintendent of-
Highways be requested to notify this Board when the widening of
North Triphammer Road has been completed."
The Clerk reported that copies had been received of the new
County sanitary code which has been adopted and w:111 be effective '
July 1, 1953

The Clerk read a letter from Milton`Alpert of the State • Department of..
Audit and Control regarding social security coverage ,for.the, Village
workmen. The matter was tabled for the present as it was ..not possible
to take any „action.at the.present time.
The. Clerk read a�letter received from. Mrs. Alison Bishop with
reference to. the denial of:1the Village 'of her request to.buy a portion
of Sunset Park and' install” :a larger t,oulv ert at her :entranoe
The Clerk� reportedt that he had received a` copy, of the:
proposed publicity regarding steps to` be. taken' regarding the sewer system
as written by Engineer. Crandall., The original had..ieen` sent' to the Mayor
who approved.it and had sent it, to the - Ithaca Journal and al so,WHCU.for
publicity. :It was_ noted, however; that the :.Journal'had summarized the
article., and, therefore it..was thought.advisable that each member.of the
Board of Trustees should.have a.copy of the complete article as written
by Engineer Crandall
The Clerk reported,on correspondence between Robert. Colbert and
the Village for lights on Country Club Road and following the Engineer's
recommendation it was reported that Mayor Shirey had ruled that the
light in front of the Westview Terrace' entrance should be moved to the
pole at the, entrance of Country Club Road and that Colbert's request for
a light at the end of,the dead end street should.be denied,: and that he
be told to install and maintain it at his own .expense.
The Clerk reported that he.had notified both Mr:,,Colbert and
the Electric & Gas Corporation of the Mayor's ruling.
10. IT WAS VOTED that. the next meeting would, be held on.
July 7th at the residence of; Trustee Whiting if.he were agreeable, and
that Prof.. Mackesey was to be invited to attend •representing, : the.
committee appointed to suggest a new Village•Zoning;Ordinanee
It.was agreed that Mayor, Shirey should contact :Frank. Howe 'with
reference to a June meeting with the Town Assessors: for the purpose of
trying to reach an agreement on, tho&e assessments of properties
lying within the e3.& Village limits.
