MINUTES of the annual meetin&•of the.resi:dents of the,Vil.iage
of Cayuga Heights, held on Monday,.March 15, 1948 at 8 P.M. in
the Schoolhouse.
1. Mayor Ke.nerson was elected..Chairman and Clerk Trousdale

was elected Secretary, of the meeting.
2. The Mayor reported.onthe of:,: the
year, stating that the..flood.of August.l5th had causeCI con1siderable
corner and make it more desirable. He. re viewed ,Vill age: tax
damage with resulting expense_to the Village He remarked on .
the opening.of,the..Corners :Community. Center and stated. that.,it
would be of.'considerable benefit to'the:Villagers although not' .
located within its 'limits He "said that.since Dr Spring was

to have its. own Health Officer and,Dr. Crum therefore resigned
on July let. He' stated that a new contract had been signed with
the-City for water essentially the same as the preceding one..
He reported the receipt of ,a copy of the preliminary, report of

the Greater.Ithaca Fact Finding Committee with a sub- committee
report on schools: He said the Village records for the past
two years were recently audited by the State Department of Audit .
and Control and very few recommendations for change were made.

contract. He said that a public hearing had been held on Dec. 16
to discuss -the "subject and'that•the consensus of opinion was that
the Village.should proceed at .once, to investigate all factors
involving the -establishment of a community fire district and
recommended that .the,Trus tees .place ,an. item in the'. budget,, t o" cover .
the cost of investigation. He said the..'contract 'was *signed and
returned to thO City with a.letter summarizing the feeling of
Village residents as expressed at the hearing, and.the City was
told that the Village intends to establish`. its "own fire 'department '
as soon as possible.' lie' sai "d.he.iiad.appoint "ed Trustee Randel as
Chairman and Trustee 'Sayles,and "Robert.Cooper.to act as a Fire
District Committee, and stated that Trustee•Randel- 'had..a report

3• Engineer Crandsll. summarized the improvements' that the
Village plans to make in the coming year, among:.which were "the
replacement of sidewalks damaged.during the flood, ,installation
of additional street lights where badly _needed. He said these
lights had been ordered at the start of the war but.not delivered
to date. He thought, however, that the Gas & Electric Co. could "
install three lights on Triphammer Road „and two'in Sunset.Park
this year. He said it, was planned to do some re- surfacing of
roads and make sewer,improvements if possible.. He °:explained,,”
that 120 street signs had,been delivered ,so that :stolen ,siSns
might be replaced, and said that 25 -mile speed limit signs were
to be erected within the'Village.
4. Trustee Randel reported for the Fire:District
Committee,` '
stating that several meetings had been held;'. that they had-met,-
with a sub - committee of,the Town, with`a. manufacturer of..fire• .
apparatus, insurance men, had obtained legal advice from

4) Have a volunteer Company.
5) Have Town of Ithaca set up, its fire district . which we '
could contract with .

He said locations considered fora fire station were either

on the school grounds.. or at'the Corner "s Community.Center, either
of which places would be available for such use. He said'the ",

minimum cost of equipment appeared to be 0109000 and a better unit
would cost 014,000.
5.. Trustee Saylea reported,on the meeting between the Fire.
District Committee and 6 ..officials at which time ways of
arriving at a,formula for fixing the Village fire - service charge
were discussed. He said by devious methods _they had arrived at
a.figure.which indicated that the Village.should pay 3% of the
City a• fire.depariment costs If pro - rated, on. the :`city 1948
budget of 102,000 our.;coat would, be 03,000 He stated that the
.committee planned to have further meetings, with the city committee
to try to establish a.•formula so.that the.Village could-see.,
ould see. the
basis for.the City's charge and plan on it..
'6. Treasurer Guise :explained the financial.report for`.the
past year,and also.' the.tentative,budget.showing a.total,.of
432,463.47
7. Prof. Ralph Curtis gave the report of,the Nominating.
Committee in the.abaence of Chairman A. W. Crowly.with the ,
following slate': for Mayor,. Charles J.. Kenereorl: For Trustees,
Charles.I. Sayles and Sherman Peer.
8. IT WAS VOTED that this report be accepted.
