MINUTES of a regular meeting of the Village Board held on
Monday, April 5, 1948 at 7:30 P M. at .the home of Trustee Bayles,
410 Triphammer Road.

1. The minutes of the March 15th meeting were read.and approved.
2. The minutes of the March 15th public meeting were read
and ordered filed.
3. The following bills paid on authority of the Acting Mayor
were approved:

4. The following additional bills were.approved for payment:

5. Acting P resident Bayles read a copy of a.letter written
by Harry Gordon to the Hon. Charles D. Breitel, Couneel.to the
Governor, in reference to Assemblyman.Shaw's bill-which was
Introduced to permit the Town Board of.the Town..of Ithaca..to alter
the boundaries of the Town Fire P rotection District upon its own
motion without a petition. This letter of Harry.Gordon outlined
the situation and made a plea for passage of the.bill. The Acting
Mayor read a copy of the letter he had written.to Mr. breitel in
which he concurred in the desirability of the.bill!s passage. It
was reported that the Governor•vetoed the bill.
6. The Engineer reported that the Telephone Company;wishes '
to replace some telephone poles, put in some new ones and trim
some of the trees within the Village. At the same time the Gas
& Electric Company has in mind erecting power poles for the new

lighting. The.Engineer stated that he was worklLng with both
companies so that the wires might be strung on.common poles to
prevent duplication.
IT WAS VOTED that the Engineer be given authority to issue
a permit for the erection of 1

,Village Engineer.
The Engineer reported that there was considerable hauling of
dirt from the construction project on Highland Road for a new
apartment building with the result that dirt was accumulating on
the streets and some damage was being done to roads. The Engineer
stated that he had contacted the contractor who had agreed to clean
up the dirt and repair the road damage resulting from the use of
the trucks.

that there was
a break
in the
water main
e near the
Ellis apartments
on early Sunday
morning,
April
4th, and
as a result some people in the Village were without water pressure
for a portion of the day, but it was repaired by Sunday night.
7: Treasurer Guise reported a cash balance at the end of
March of $3,366.19. He reported that he had received a check for
043.80 representing dividends from insurance companies in connection
with the fire service insurance.
IT WAS VOTED that the Village forward a check in the same
amount to the City of Ithaca.
8. P olice Justice Shirey reported that during March he had
fined about six violators of the law, one for speeding and four
or five for all .night parking.
' 9. The Clerk reported for the inspectors of election stating
that ten people appeared at the recent election which broke all
records in recent years in high number of votes cast.

10. C. H. Guise was appointed Treasurer & Collector for the term

11. IT WAS VOTED to commend Police Patrolman.ZanZile on the

IT WAS VOTED to accept this audit and it.was ordered filed.
13• IT WAS VOTED RESOLVED: That the First National.Bank of
Ithaca, N. Y. be designated as the off icial. depositary. of Village
funds for the fiscal year 1948 -49.
14. IT WAS VOTED that the
Clerk be authorized to.notify the
official bank of the following

18. IT WAS VOTED that the Trustees act as a Board of
Assessors for the year 1948 -49•
19. IT WAS VOTED that the Board of Trustees constitute
Itself a Board of Health and that Mayor Kenerson be designated
as President and Clerk Trousdale as.Secretary.
20. It was noted that at the last meeting of the Trustees
a Board meeting had been set for April 26 at the schoolhouse
at 7:30 P M. and that a budget hearing would be held at 8 P.M.
on the same day.
21. IT WAS VOTED that the regular monthly meetings for the
year 1948 -49 would be held on the first Tuesday in each month.
