Kenerson; Mayor C. I. Sayles, Trustee H. J. Shirey, Trustee Sherwood Holt, Trustee W. S. Randel, Trustee C. H. Guise, Treasurer Carl Crandall, Engineer This meeting was a special meeting called to consider the fire service contract with the City of Ithaca. The Public Hearing scheduled for this day in the schoolhouse was cancelled because of the coal shortage. Mayor Kenerson outlined in detail the plan of the Town of Ithaca to organize a fire district at the north end of the town which would include the Village of Cayuga Heights. Their plan contemplated the use of a 500 gallon fog type fire truck. A long discussion followed as to the practlbility of this idea, ' how effective it would be, and its'effect upon insurance rates. Engineer Crandall stated that this type of equipment is satisfactory only for small iatem&er fires and that the-insurance rates would go up and that.the hydrants now in the Village could not be used unless used by the City of.Ithaca. A long discussion then followed regarding the.proposed dontract with the city for fire service at a.fee of #2,000 which' was an increase of $1,000 over the contract in effect in 1946. The Trustees all felt that this price was exorbitant considering the amount of service rendered to the Village.: It was decided that Mayor Kenerson should address.a letter.to the .City outlining the position of the Trustees and stating that a Public .Hearing would be held in the near future to consider the matter. 1;3.5 IT WAS VOTED to hold the public hearing on Monday, January 69 1947 at 8 P.M. in the schoolhouse and to hold a Board Meeting on January 7th at 7:30 P.M. at 102 Northway Road to take action on the proposed contract.
