The.Mayor read a letter from Lindley_C. Kent,',in which it 15 he complained about the excessive speeding on Triphammer Road and the dangerous intersection of Upland and Triphammer Roads. This matter was discussed at length, at which time Police Cddissioner Crandall brought out that the main difficulty encountered in the control of speeding on Triphammer Road was caused by the fact that the east side of the street is a county road where the legal speed limit is 50 miles per hour, whereas the west aide of the road is within the Village where the speed limit is 25 miles per hour. He said'it was quite impossible for Police Officer VanZile to control speeding under such circumstances. IT WAS VOTED that the Clerk should address a letter to the Board of Supervisors and request that steps betaken to have that portion of Triphammer Road bordering the Village be declared a speed zone with a maximum rate,of 25 miles per hour. ' IT WAS ALSO VOTED that arrangements be made to have Police Officer VanZile made a deputy sheriff, as such a title would give him additional authority in certain cases. 6. Treasurer Guise reported a balance of $1,420.61 as of May 31st, which he said was the lowest balance as of that date during his term of office. 7. The Engineer reported that he had issued a building permit to Raymond McElwee who plans to build a house on,the east side of the Parkway near the Poole residence. The Engineer reported that he had been unable to make a deal with Gleason & Knight regarding the resurfacing of streets due to the fact that Gleason & Knight are short of materials. IT WAS VOTED to authorize the Engineer to negotiate'a ' contract with Gleason & Knight for the resurfacing of roads in the Village within the budget limit, the streets to be treated to be 116 designated by the Engineer. The Engineer reported that he had received a complaint originating with the School Board that the Village workmen were . not picking up refuse from the school grounds. He explained some extenuating circumstances why this had not been done in the past, but said he had ordered Mr. Haskins to pick it up in the future. S.
