August, 7th were approved . with the addition of the name.of J.,.T. Newman after the.-word .:., "developer" in 1tem.8;, page•:39•' 2- The.following bills paid on authority of.the,Mavor were ..; approved: WATER, FIRE & POLICE McKinney Agency - Insurance 11.50 SANITATION College,Chevrolet do. 2:95__;... Treasurer Guise reported a cash,balance.of,$12,624.60, as of September let and said that the taxes had all been paid now except on five properties. . 4. The Engineer reported that:the second mowing.of weeds"had, been done by employing Charlee.Collins with his ,tractor. This is. the first time a tractor has been used for such a purpose, but the.' extra cost, namely #3 per hour, seemed ,justified in view of. .the fact. that it was the only way of getting the work done..,: He reported that,:; . some concrete work had been done on'the sidewalk on Han' shaw Road 5. Police "Commissioner Crandall reported that Officer , VanZile.had been "unusually busy lately. "checking up,on•the'`.following :,` 0 4'1 the damage at the school caused by boys throwing stones at windows, the grass fire that was set on the school grounds, apprehending a girl driving a car without a license, and the violation of the fumigation ordinance at 104 Northway Road. In connection with the latter, the Clerk was instructed to notify Mr. Hagin, the exterminator, of the violation and send him a copy of the ordinance. 6. Mr. Crandall reported that Officer VanZile was becoming dissatisfied with his position and was talking of resigning. A long discussion then followed regarding the'reasons for Officer VanZile's dissatisfaction with his work, and a review-of the many cases of delinquency among the children in and around the Heights resulting in the destruction of property, with particular reference to the stoning of the windows in the schoolhouse. Due ' to the concern over the breaking of the windows at the school, IT WAS VOTED to request the Mayor to arrange for a meeting between representatives of'the Village Board, representatives of the School Board, and representative parents to discuss a. solution of the problem. 7. The Trustees felt that if some concrete action could be taken to support Officer VanZile in contending with the delinquency problem on the Heights he would be more apt to retain his position. IT WAS VOTED that Officer VanZile be granted a month's vacation with pay, namely 075. 8. IT WAS VOTED that the next meeting be held at 7 P.M. on Tuesday, October 17th, at Trustee Shirey's office.
