Shirey, Acting Mayor Sherwood Holt, Trustee C. I. Bayles, Trustee T. B. Maxfield, Trustee C. H. Guise, Treasurer Carl Crandall, Engineer 1. The minutes of the meeting of May lot were read and approved. 2. The following bills paid on authority of the Mayor were approved: SANITATION W..D. Lyme - Gas & oil College Chevrolet.Ca. The following additional bills were approved for payment: GENERAL Stover Printing Co. - 700 tax bills 13.80 SANITATION College Chevrolet Co. - Repairs 6.51 HIGHWAYS .McKinney Agency - Liability insurance 11.50 W. D. Lyme - Gas & oil . 1 21.84 4. Treasurer Guise reported a cash balance on May 31st of $2,139.95. Due to the fact that tax money is now coming in he stated that the present cash balance was $7,106.23. IT WAS VOTED that the hydrant rental bill of 4760 and the sewer rental bill of 03,455.10 be paid at this time.. t 35 IT WAS VOTED that the balance of the indebtedness on the e paving bonds, amounting to 41,500, plus interest, be paid at this time. 5. Police Commissioner Crandall reported that an abandoned car had been found in the Village which Proved to be owned by a Navy student. When the owner was located he gave as his excuse that the car had broken down and he had been unable to get away from his barracks to do anything about it. The boy had the car hauled to a garage at his own expense. The Commissioner reported that Officer VanZile had become suspicious of children around the schoolhouse and upon investigation found 15 or 16 children hidden in closets inside the school and the school generally ransacked. He notified Charles H. Newman, President of the School Hoard, and disposition of the cases was left to him. 6. Engineer Crandall reported that the mowing of weeds in the vacant lots in the Village might prove difficult this year due to the fact that he had been unable as yet to employ anyone with a mowing machine. 7. The Engineer reported that the old Franklin C. Cornell note of $75 had been paid and that an additional $75 had been paid for the privilege of connecting water to the house on Hanshaw Road known as the-Cornell-Taylor house. IT WAS VOTED that the action of Engineer Crandall in granting the permission that water be connected to the above mentioned house be approved, and he was commended for securing.payment of the old $75 note. ' 8. The Engineer reported.tbat some patching of roads had been done by the Village workmen but there still remained some more to be done in the future. 36 IT WAS VOTED that the Engineer be authorized to make arrange- ments with Moran and Gleason for the re- surfacing of such streets as he deemed advisable within the budget limit appropriated for the purpose. 9. Engineer Crandall reported that the city workmen doing work similar to work performed by Haskins and Collins had recently received a raise and IT WAS THEREFORE VOTED that Frank Haskins and James Collins be given a raise of $10 each a month, effective May let, such raise to be considered a war emergency raise and their rates of pay to be reviewable after the war. 10. The Engineer reported that Arboriste had completed the spraying of village trees and that the reports about the quality of their work had been favorable. 11. The Clerk reported that a letter had been received from The State Retirement System stating that deductions from the salary of Officer VanZile had been declared illegal due to a ruling of the Attorney General, and that such amounts deducted would be refundable upon the filing of a new application of member- ship in the plan. The Clerk was requested to send a copy of the letter received from the State to Officer VanZile together with the application blank for admittance to the plan as of April 1, 1944. 12. IT WAS VOTED that Ralph W. Curtis and Sherman Peer be re- appointed as members of the Zoning Board of Appeals for terms of three years each. 13. The next meeting was set for Monday, August'7th at 7:30 P.M. at the home of Clerk Trousdale. 14. Adjourned at 9:00 P.M. � - ii
