MINUTES of a regular meeting of the Village Board held on .-
Monday, October 6, 1941 at 7:30 P.M. in the Schoolhouse

1. The minutes of the.September 8th meeting .we-re read and.
approved.,
2.. The._,'Engineer.' rep orted that he had further investigated
the barricade.on the sidewalk on Wyckoff,Road and ae -a ".result
had painted'.white'the,catch'basin lying`Just,beyohd the`.berricade .
which made it via ible. even :at night. He, ,stated'it would be
quite impossible for,anybody to step'.into this ,catch basin by
mistake "and"he did not think a"grating.over.it would;be practical.
The Engineer recommended that�a stop aign.be.installed at the
upper and,lower sides of Wyckoff and Cayuga Heights Roads.
Trustee Shirey moved that such a stop sign be installed,.and after
considerable discussion the vote was' taken and stood two in favor
and two against. After further discussion'Trustee•.Shirey with-
drew his motion.

5. The Mayor reported.. that. tie. had - received a further.:.letter.
from Prof: Herrick regarding':lights on Brook Lane, but in view "of"

the previous action of this Board regarding thel.'matter "no further.
action was taken:
6. The Treasurer made his report indicating a cash•.balance
on September let of 410,486.11.
7. The Engineer reported that he•.had issued a new`.building,
permit to Prof. Flexner on Iroquois Road for :a house .costing
about $8,500. He reported that the Mary'Lewis property had ;been
taken over by the University in order to satisfy "their mortgage..
He reported .a conversation with George Carpenter.'`in which the
latter stated that a contract for water service must be signed

before. Jan. ls,t; 1942. Mr. .Carpenter plans to send in such :'a
contract to be signed in the.near.'future The.'ingineer, suggested ::
that a committee be appointed to take care of this matter when
it arises..
IT WAS VOTED that the Mayor should :appoint a committee `to.

consider the contract for water service with the City of Ithaca.
The Mayor appointed the following committee Trustees Shirey,
Holt, and Maxfieid. '
The Engineer reported „,that.Dean.Hollister had started,'
construotion :.oIf a house_ south of Mrs. New men's property ori_,'_,
Highland Road, that Mr. Holmes is etartirig work on a house.on
v the east side of.,Highland Road, and.that B�% L. `.Palmer .had
bought the ,nine acres of wooded ;tract east of his_house.on
Triphammer Road. The Engineer reported. that a-eulve'rt near -. .
Miss, Williams' house•had been extended
8. The Engineer: reported the resignation of Officer
Begent dffective October 15,th. He noted that since the
employment, of.Mr . Begent,many of the difficulties had'beased;
that: only two robberiee'ha.d occurred and these'the•officer
had solved, arid that there was considerable, improvement in •
traffic conditions. He expressed . the opinion . that .the.,
experiment of having a police officer•wds well worth while and'
should be continued.

IT WAS VOTED, that the resignation.of Mr. Begent be
accepted as of Oct. 15, 1941.
IT WAS VOTED that Police Commissioner.Crandall . be
authorized to receive applications for a.new,police offiger
and appoint. Mr. Begent's successor,.within the.:appropriation'
available..
9. .The. :.Clerk reported that Mr. Mosher had agreed to ,
renew:his garbage, collection contract.at.the'same figure as.
last, year, namely,$1,800, with the .understanding that.he would
carry his own Workmen's. Compensation insurance He further

stated that contracts had been drawn up and signed by the Mayor
and we were now awaiting the return of the signed contract from
Mr. Mosher. He stated that a certificate has been received from
the insurance company indicating that Mr. Mosher has taken out
workmen's Compensation insurance for another year.

11. A special meeting of the Village Trustees was set for
7 :00 P.M. on October 20th to,complete the assessment roll.
12. Grievance Day was set for November 18th from 6 :00 P.M.
to 10 :00 P.M.
13. Adjourned at 9 :57 P.M.

1. The Board of Trustees meeting as a Board of Assessors
after considering each property separately, completed.the Village
Assessment Roll for the year 1942 and filed the roll with the Clerk.
2. The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
