MINUTES of a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the
Village of Cayuga Heights held on March 18, 1940 at 7 :30 P.M.,
at the Schoolhouse.
PRESENT: H. E. Baxter, Mayor
H. H. Scofield, Trustee
C. H. Guise, Treasurer
Carl'Crandall, Engineer
1. The minutes of-the meeting.held on March 4th were read
.and approved.
2. The following bills were approved for payment:

3. At 5:00 o'clock the Trustees declared a recess to
attend the annual meeting of the residents of Cayuga'Heights, and
then re- convened at 10 :00 P.M.
4. Engineer Crandall reported that.a s a result.of poor
lighting in the Village resulting from broken bulbs he had taken
the'matter up with the New York State Electric &,Gas Corporation.
The company finally agreed to replace broken bulbs promptly and
to make a weekly inspection to be sure all lights were in operation.
5. The Clerk reported that he had written the Town Board
regarding the matter of illegal charges included in the expense
total used as a basis for determining the State and County tax,
and as a result a call had been received from Erie J. Miller,
Supervisor of the Town of Ithaca. He stated that the only charges
for fire service in 1939 were $200 and that this sum would be
deducted before assessing the 1940`tax. He s,tated'.that the fire
service charges in-1939 were not paid until 1940 and.would be
.� deducted before determining the,1940 tax rate. Mr.:Miller
further stated that no sums were paid by the Town of Ithaca for
fire service prior to 1939• Mr. Miller furnished the Clerk wit)a

Town income and expense statements for the years 1938 and 1939,
and'a'schedule showing how the tax rate had been computed.

6. IT WAS VOTED that the tentative budget for 1940 -41 as
appearing on pages 85 and 86 be recommended to the new Board for
adoption, with the following changes:
a) A decrease of $1,000 in item 7 -b -3 (Liquidation of
Indebtedness on Street Certificate), thus bringing the appropria-
tion down to $1,000.
b) An increase of $1,000 in item 1 -h (Other Expense of
General Government), thus making available a total of #1,250.
7. The Budget Hearing was set for April let at 7 :30 P.M.
in the Schoolhouse.
8. Adjourned at 11 :00 P.M.
