T. Newman, the first calling attention to the "gentleman's agreement" existing between the Village and the City of Ithaca'in regards services rendered by the.fire department of the city, namely, that the Village felt honor bound to reimburse the City to the extent of $50.00 per call for fires within its limits. As the two more important fires prompting Mr. Newman's letter, the one at the 'Flack residence, the other at the Daley- Porter house under construc- tion, were outside the Village, the Trustees decided to explain the facts to the Chief of the.Fire Department and learn if possible his opinion as to the Village's monetary responsibility as a result of a minor.blaze which brought some apparatus to the home of H. C. Elmer, now under construction. 82 The second letter raised four questions; first, the improvement of Renwick Heights Drive from Cayuga Heights Road westwardly beyond the entrance to J. P. Young's residence; second, the opinion of the Trustees as to whether the Village ought not to bear the maintenance cost of a street light which Messrs. Newman, Tanner, Castle, Albree and Peer had erected on a private road in the Newman, of their properties; third, in regards the necessity of an additional fire hydrant on Cayuga Heights Road in the vicinity of ffir. Newman's new development to the south of the Bolton residence; and fourth, his willingness to convey several roads in the aforementioned addition to the Village together with a strip of land along the brow of the Reynold's sandpit which he thought would be suitable for a public park. Action on the proposals of the letter was as follows: The Board felt that there was no pressing need for gravelling the surface of Renwick Height Drive in a temporary manner, but thought that this road should be improved in a more permanent way as already planned. That the payment by the Village of light bills for lights on private property would be a questionable precedent to establish. That a fire hydrant had already been ordered placed at the corner of Cayuga Heights Road and the road leading down to the new residence of C. T. Stagg, but that further pressure should be brought to-bear in order that no unavoidable embarrassment be caused the property owners of this district. That the roads which Mr. Newman proffered to the Village should be accepted when they were found to be in the proper condition and this could be determined to better advantage later when the weather would allow it. The acceptance of the land for park privileges was thought to be a question which might well be presented to the tax payers at the next annual meeting. Voted to circularize the Village with a letter setting forth the days upon which garbage would be collected each week in different sections and also specifying rules and regulations governing collection of same. Voted to authorize the Treasurer to send statements to Professor C. L. Durham and Dr. A. M. MacGachen oflaccounts long past due. Informal consideration was given the question as to the advisability of obtaining a piece of ground upon which a building might be erected for housing equipment and supplies belonging to the Village. Voted to adjourn. -- - - - -AL ' - = - - - - - -- Presid t --------- 12- % -- - -- -- x+1 age C1 rk
