NEW YORK 14850 • TELEPHONE 607- 257.1011 CHIEF OF POLICE August 17, 1981 TO: Honorable Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights SUBJECT: Report of the Police Chief for July 1981 The Police Department handled 79 complaints and investigated 2 motor vehicle accidents during the month. There were 6B traffic tickets and B parking tickets issued. There was one felony complaint and that was for an unfounded burglary report. There were twenty -three misdemeanor complaints, eight for issuing bad checks, five criminal mischief, four petit larceny, three aggravated harassment, one illegal possession of fireworks, one criminal trespass, and one criminal possession of stolen property. One person was arrested for issuing a bad check and two juveniles were apprehended for criminal possession of stolen property. The red bar light on police car #125 is over nine years old and has been having increasing mechanical and electrical problems recently. I will discuss arrangements I have made to replace it with the Board. The list price of the unit we wish-to purchase is $727.35 and I have a quote of $484.35 if we purchase it at this time. Because-.of..a. recent court appeal on a speeding case, I have learned that we should update our traffic ordinance by enacting a new local law to replace the present ordinance. I would therefore request the Board to authorize a public hearing be conducted prior to the September 21,1981 meeting in preparation for passing such a local law. There was a total of $849.56 in property reported lost or stolen and $933.40 in property recovered by the Police Department. The full -time officers worked 23 hours overtime and the part -time officers worked 58 hours during the month. Respectfully sub tted, Harlin R. McEwen Chief of Police
