TO: Honorable Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor
Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights
RE: Report of the Fire Chief for July 1981
The month of July has been more active for our membership than the previous
few months have been. Weresponded to some burned english muffins, a wire sparking
on a transformer, a pickup truck with a motor on fire, the odor of gasoline
reported by a N.Y.S.E.& G. repairman, a false alarm at DeWitt school and a short
in a light switch. This amounted to a total of 22 hours and 48 minutes of time
spent by members of the Fire Department on fire calls for the month.
Two Assistant Chiefs spent 35 minutes investigating incident calls for the month.
One basement had less than 2" of water in it and our pumps will not pump that
small an amount of water. The other incident was an overheated light ballast in
a Doctor's office.
The Rescue Squad spent 29 hours and 46 minutes on rescue calls this month.
Broken down the calls were 2 cardiac calls, 2 seizure calls, 1 possible heat
stroke, 1 personal illness, 1 person hit by golf fall. 1 fall victum, 1 person
with difficulty breathing, and 1 domestic problem where treatment was refused.
On Friday afternoon July 17 one of the firemen had our Seagrave pumper out for
a practice drive and stopped for a stop sign. When he started up, the left rear
axle snapped on the truck. We called Caskey's garage to come and tow the truck
to his garage. We got the truck back Monday afternoon and put it back in service
at that time.
Normal preventative maintanence was done to all of the trucks during the month
by our own mechanic John Patte. Nothing unusual was discovered during this work.
The enuipment is in very good shape except for the Squad truck which we have to
think about replacinfz in the near future.
Respectfully submitted,
Francis L. Miller
