Re: Monthly Report of the Fire Chief of the Village of Cayuga Heights for April 1981
Since our elections in early April, everything has settled down in the Fire House
and it is business as normal. The Rescue Squad is staying busy with calls. They
answered five person down calls,.two cardiac calls, two person unconscience calls,
one motor vehicle accident, one personal accident, and one personal illness
during the month. The number of fire alarms is down from most Aprils. There.were
seven fire calls during the month.
April 4 - A grass fire accidently set by children playing with matches sent
two engines and twenty men to 3 Muriel Street. The men spent.11.7
man -hours putting out this fire.
April 14 - 707 Cayuga Heights Road, a loose belt on the furnace blower motor
caused some smoke and odor of smoke to fill the house. Thirteen men
spent 3 man -hours on this call.
April 18 - Lansing Fire Department called us on mutual aid to a garage fire
at Lansing North Apartments. Thirteen men spent 4.3.man -hours on
this call.
April 22 - 10 Tyler Drive, an electric arc on a filter of an air purifier
called thirteen men out for 6.7 man - hours.
April 23 - The Beauty Salon at Community Corners, two overheated light
ballasts caused smoke odor in the salon and took 10 men 2.3 man -
hours to clear up.
April 23 - 600 Cayuga Heights Road, an alarm malfunction called seventeen
men for a total of 14.5 man -hours spent searching the premises.
April 25 - The laundry room at Plesant Grove Apartments brought many of our
men home from the banquet in South Lansing for a loose belt on
a washing machine. Eighteen men responded and took 7.2cman -hours
to find the problem and return home.
A total of 49.7 man -hours was given in the month of April by our volunteers at
fire alarms.
During the month of April much manpower went into cleaning and painting the apart-
ment over the Fire House in preparation of our new Resident Driver and his wife
moving in. We are happy to have Dan and Abby Rogers now getting settled into thier
new home. A lot of paint, elbow grease, detergent, and determination went into the
apartment and it looks beautiful. The Fire Company spent some money on the
apartment and bought some of the furnishings from the Patte family when they
moved out.
