VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS
MV 19, 1980
TO:, Honorable Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor
Members of the Board of Trustees
Village of Cayuga Heights
SUBJECT: Report of the Police Chief for April 1980
The Police Department handled 81 complaints and investigated 3 motor vehicle accidents
during the month. There were 92 traffic tickets and 29 parking tickets issued.
There were two felony complaints for criminal possession of a forged instrument
and twenty -four misdemeanor complaints, eleven for petit larceny, five for criminal
mischief, three for bad checks, two for criminal trespass, two for aggravated
harassment and one for opening a grave.
One person was arrested for driving while intoxicated and one person was arrested for
unlawful possession of marijuana. One juvenile was apprehended for a curfew viola-
tion and four juveniles were apprehended for disorderly conduct.
piscussion is continuing on a proposal from Town of Ithaca Supervisor Noel Desch
for the Cayuga Heights Police Dept. to provide some traffic enforcement in the
northeast area of the town on a contractual basis. On April 4th I met with the
Public Safety Committee and then on April 10th I met with the Public Safety Committee
and Mr. Desch. On April 21st Mr. Desch and I met with Sheriff Howard to discuss the
matter. On May 12th the Town Board voted to send out a letter to town residents
asking for their comments on the matter and when these are received they will decide
whether to proceed further. The proposal at present is to try it on a one year
basis starting about September let. The Village Board will be given full details
of the proposal for consideration at such time as the town decides to do so.
On May 3rd we received $255 from a found property sale we conducted in conjunction
with the Ithaca Police Dept. and we have also received the $250 half year payment
for the contract to place the electronic switching equipment in our basement by
Security & Energy Systems Inc. I would like to ask that the Village Board consider
the $500 annual income form this contract be used for capital equipment purchases
by the Police Department such as the Fire Department contract. At this time I
would respectfully request that the Board authorize the Treasurer to transfer and
encumber $275 of this money to the police department equipment account so I can
order a Motorola pager for Officer Wall. Sgt. Cooper and I already have pagers and
they have proven to be very valuable to us. My goal is to equip all the officers
with pagers to increase our ability to reach them in emergencies. There is money
in next years budget to purchase another pager which would then give us a total of
four.
There was a total of $19248.27 in property reported lost or stolen during the month
and $800.00 in property was recovered by the Police Department.
The full -time officers worked 23 hours overtime during April and the part -time offi-
cers worked 7 hours.
Respectfully,
